"Professional, knowledgable, and efficient service. Recommend A-Plus Air Conditioning & Home Solutions. Our new A/C was making a loud rattling/rumbling noise when we started it up this year, like a washing machine out of balance. I found A-Plus Air Conditioning based on reviews here and on the Lennox website. I called A-Plus and one other company on Thursday morning. The competitor was not able to fit me in the schedule until Monday. David at A-Plus called back within an hour and scheduled me for Friday morning. We had a mixup on the telephone number, but when I called Friday as my initial window was ending, David called back and placed me in the queue within an hour. Jeremy arrived with a smile and pleasant demeanor. He opened up the air handler and quickly found the cause of the rattling. A small plastic wrapper was the culprit. Jeremy tested the system with just the fan and then the A/C and the noise was gone. No muss, no fuss. Quality work! Will call A-Plus for future preventative maintenance. Thank you for your prompt help!"

"Tech came out and informed me my old unit (21 yrs old) was leaking freon which was why the a/c wasn't cooling the house. I would need to have the leak fixed and the system recharged, which would have been expensive. Since the unit was so old, I decided to get a quote for a new system. I received the quote the following day and installation was scheduled for the following day. Crew arrived on time at 8am and proceeded to remove/replace my old unit. There was some additional duct work that was needed which was done at no charge since it wasn't included in the original quote. The crew completed the work same day. The supervisor inspected the work, installed the new wi-fi thermostat, and showed me how to use it. It's been about a month since installation and I have had no issues whatsoever. Highly recommend!"

"Legacy Air Conditioning and Heating are knowledgeable, easy to work with, patient to answer questions and explain whatever I didn't understand, quick to respond, and in the offseason, I was installed the very next day. Owner, office staff, installer, all professional and articulate. Couldn't be happier. The Customer Service and Expertise: Chad has many years of HVAC experience before starting his own business, so he comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He's happy to answer any and all questions you may have and responds promptly by phone or text. Legacy's computerized quote and purchasing system makes that process a breeze, allowing you to easily compare product choices and make your final decision online without the pressure of "deciding NOW" while they are presenting to you your options in your home. Integrity is of paramount importance to Chad and his team. He's committed to selling you the right unit to address your concerns and install it absolutely correctly. And Legacy is the only company I found offering a 10 year parts AND a 10 year labor warranty if you keep up with your annual maintenance on your unit. His installers were courteous, personable, knowledgeable and again answered the myriad of questions I had. Products: Trane dealer, Legacy was incredibly competitive on their pricing, and Trane is a solid product. Their SEER 16 is only slightly more than their 14 SEER, and NBU (New Braunfels Utility) offers a rebate on the SEER 16 through July 31, 2018 (often these renew, just check the website, click Rebates). Legacy made sure I had all the necessary paperwork to file for the rebate, with their part filled in, and handed it to me on the day of my install. Efficiency at its best! If you like tech, the standard touchscreen programable thermostat will connect to your cell phone after installing a free app, enabling remote access to adjust your home temperature while you are away. The device also gives you all kinds of information, even a weather forecast! And the thermostat is intuitive and easy to use."

"Butch called back right away. Came out in a timely fashion. Got one unit working. Then he said the main board was malfunctioning on the downstairs unit and would have to be replaced. It would cost 1200 or 1300. But if we spent a little extra on a service contract he would wave the trip fee and it would be 1100 something. Okay. We did that. It was too late for him to get the board that day so he came out the next day to install the board. But the unit still didn't come on. He said the thermostat was bad and it would we 300 to 500 to replace the thermostat depending on what we wanted. My husband told him we could do that ourselves. Just by pass it and get the unit working. Then he came down and said that the blower motor was out and it would be 1800 to replace the blower motor or 2400 to just replace the whole unit and then we'd be under warranty again. I told them I wanted a second opinion before we did that. I called Ed & Sons they came out, confirmed that we did need a new thermostat. And said they could rebuild the blower motor for around 100$. I ordered two new thermostats for 300 for both of them and my husband installed the thermostats. The work they did was fine. But I felt like they were more of the school of let's just replace parts until it works or we can sell them a new unit. Rather than what can we fix."

FAQs for air conditioning projects in San Marcos, TX

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
