"I hired Prime Energy after the owner Lionel Retes responded to my Angieâ s inquiry. He was here almost immediately. My initial thought about him was a sense of honesty. I had also read his other reviews. I was replacing a twenty seven year old heating and air conditioning unit. He didnâ t try to sell me a unit beyond what was needed. He recommended some new duct work. He completed it before he left for the day so we would have heat from our old furnace that night. He was correct, with the new duct work the old furnace warmed the house like it was new. If I hadnâ t already decided on a new system the old one would have worked but I figured its time was up. Leon installed the new Rudd system, the job was finished in three days. He put in long hours. His work ethic and craftsmanship are great. So far the new system is working well. I would hire Mr. Retes again and fully recommend him. Steve Knief"

"They installed a new Heating & Cooling system in my house. The work was very clean and professional. I do most of the work around my home so I know exactly what to look for, and they did not cut any corners. No detail was skipped. Their price was reasonable and there were no hidden or gotcha fees. They went above and beyond and didn't try to charge me extra to get the premium service I received. I knew nothing about this business until a friend recommended them, and I am glad I did. I would highly recommend them to anyone."

"Handyman JC was on time and courteous. I needed some help with my AC, re-caulking my tub, and a special carpentry project (I needed a removable screen above my front door to keep birds out). Price was reasonable. I have more projects and plan to contact him again in the near future!"

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
