"Just have to get used to the new furnace. "Ben" was nice enough to have the old air condition system removed without replacement, at my request. Customer service is very good."

"Home Pro Heating and Air did an excellent job fixing my A/C. From the moment I called, they were professional, responsive, and straightforward. The technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue quickly, and explained everything in a way I could understand. The repair was done efficiently, and my air conditioning has been running perfectly ever since. Their pricing was fair, and the level of service was outstanding. It’s rare to find a company that’s both honest and highly skilled, but Home Pro proved to be both. I’m extremely satisfied and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work."

"My wife and I called for four or five companies who came to our house to give estimates on replacing our AC unit and/or gas furnace. We settled on NW Columbia Heating and Air Conditioning. Dave Whispell met me and my wife at our house, surveyed the system and outlined our options. He was patient, knowledgeable and thorough, answering all our questions. He told us what we could expect when Jake and Ivan the installers came to the house. He outlined what would be done and it was done just as he stated. Jake and Ivan were on time, very professional, courteous and willing to answer questions as they worked on the job at hand. They did everything that was asked of them. They made sure everything they installed was working properly, answered questions to my satisfaction and cleaned up after themselves when the job was finished. This group is really on the ball, efficient, honest and they did it all for a very good price with the use of top notch equipment: Trane. The heat pump was a very good alternative to the AC we had. It has worked very well during this prolonged warm summer. I am very glad Dave educated me about the benefits of a heat pump over another AC unit. If you need any work done on your heating/AC/heat pump, I recommend you call Dave Whispell at NW Columbia Heating and Air Conditioning (503) 543-3624. This group is honest, efficient, knowledgeable and the price is right."

"Dave from Columbia came to my place in Portland from Scappoose on a same-day appt, for what I thought was a dead furnace. (I had tons of smoke flow into the home after furnace turned on.) Rather than just presuming the furnace was dead or even the problem, Dave poked around. He discovered the smoke was from the fireplace/chimey and the furnace turning on had pulled air from the chimney, reignited a smoldering log, and then filled the house with smoke. The problem was with the chimney all along, but Dave/Columbia did not charge me anything for the trip to Portland---or for diagnosing the problem---even when I called later to offer. Great service, great customer relations, great knowledge of how air moves through homes."

"I had a furnace and air conditioning installed. I was very impressed by this company. The bid was very reasonable and Shannon walked me through my options (I have uneven heating). The installers were prompt, courteous and stayed until the work was completed (7:30pm). They even fixed and replaced duct work that was not part of the bid and did not charge me more for it. I will use this company for any heating/cooling/plumbing issues in the future. Too bad they don't work on patios and fences!"

"Bryan was amazing! He showed up right on time and made two trips outside of Salem to find parts to get my air conditioner running during a heat wave. Absolutely recommend!"
Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
