"They did an excellent and clean job. The price is awesooome!!! I started by doing the ceiling and ended up remodeling other places in my home. I gave the contact information to my office maintenance manager and he was delighted with the work they did on the ceiling at my job."

Small jobs welcome

"We had our entire first floor painted, including removing popcorn ceilings. The rooms have 10â ceilings, except the sunken living room (14â ) and the stairway to the upstairs (18-19â ). The work included removing a grate from an exhaust fan on the second floor and repairing the opening with Sheetrock. Paulo and his crew were 100% professional. Always on time, high quality work, extremely responsive. Small issues were quickly corrected, some before I even said anything. We were totally comfortable with them in our home and look forward to hiring them for the second floor work weâ re planning."

"We needed to replace a patch of our living room ceiling due to damage from a water leak upstairs. We contacted C&B, who responded and quoted us a price quickly. The price was fair for a multi-day job, they got it done within a week, and they even helped us repaint the ceiling. Very professional, courteous, and trustworthy. We'd strongly recommend!"

"Working with Gove Restoration was a great experience and if we could give them higher than an A rating, we would. Our project involved a kitchen, family room and living room renovation, and we couldn't be happier with the results-our new kitchen/living space is beautiful- exactly what we had hoped for and more. When we initially contacted Gove Restoration, we connected with Adam Gove. It was apparent to us early on that Adam was professional, thorough, detail oriented, and committed to doing the best job for his clients. We were impressed with the amount of time that Adam spent meeting, planning and discussing the project with us prior to beginning the renovation work itself. And once the project actually began, we were even more impressed if that was possible! It was clear that Adam put a great deal of time into planning and preparation and as a result, the project moved forward like clockwork and finished right on schedule. We were simply amazed at how smoothly and quickly our project progressed. Having Adam and his brother Matt (and on occasion their Dad) working at our house was a delight. They are quietly kind and confidence-inspiring, trustworthy, skilled and meticulous. And when we say meticulous we mean it- we would come home at the end of each day to a clean and neatly organized work space. There were a couple of unique design issues that presented given our space, and Adam and Matt came up with and executed perfect and beautiful solutions. Adam managed our project. He had the nicest way of gently guiding us in the right direction when we would be a little unsure about some of the decisions that needed to be made and his insight and guidance was always spot on. He kept us fully informed every single day about what was happening, and we always knew what to expect and which of his subcontractors (who were a very talented group of professionals as well) would be working at the house. Besides being gifted craftsmen, Adam and Matt's customer service is second to none. We are thrilled with our new kitchen (which was completely gutted and totally redone), our renovated family room (which included a beautiful new fireplace mantle designed and built by the Gove brothers to match the style of our new kitchen cabinets, perfectly laid out new recessed ceiling lighting, the removal of our old barn board paneling and the installation of new sheetrock and beautiful crown molding, along with a newly framed front window and a new door into the family room from the garage), our entry way (which involved the removal of the existing tile and installation of new wood flooring, molding and lighting) and our living room (which included sheet rock repair and removal of the existing wall to wall carpeting and refinishing of hardwood floors underneath). We were so impressed with the attention to detail that was given to every aspect of the project. Gove Restoration's workmanship is incredible and they are a pleasure to work with. And we love that Gove Restoration is a family business. Who would have thought that a renovation project could actually be a pleasant experience?? We cannot say enough good things about this company. We would hire them again in an instant and we highly recommend them!"

"Larry is the best. We have hired him to replace skylights, repair a ceiling with water damage, and most recently repair and repaint an entire ceiling. He shows up when he says he will. He quotes firm prices. He completes the job in time. Unfortunately he is in high demand so call early in your project."

FAQs for acoustic ceiling tiles install projects in Portland, CT

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:

  • Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • What is the best tile size for my project?

  • What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?

  • How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?

  • What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?

Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.

Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.

Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.

Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and repair

  • Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements

  • Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance

  • Available in various styles to suit your design preferences

Cons:

  • Reduce ceiling height

  • Tiles may require replacement after a few years

  • Less sturdy than traditional ceilings

  • Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall

Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
