"The fixed my master shower and also plastered my finished basement ceiling and painted the basement ceiling and walls. They do excellent work. I am in a private group of FB and I posted Marcia's business card on it."

"After contacting Joe through Angie’s List, he came to our home promptly to provide an estimate for the work. From the outset, we found Joe to be honest, forthright, professional and thoughtful in his approach. His estimate fell somewhere in the middle of the others we received, but we felt confident that his number reflected an honest desire to limit any added expenses along the way. When we hired Joe, we asked him to honor one major request – to ensure that the new spaces did not feel like “add-ons” or “extensions” of our home, but rather to blend in seamlessly as if they were part of the original construction. This was not an easy task given that our home is more than 150 years old. We were very pleased with his effort and success in honoring this request. He helped us obtain mouldings/trim and ballusters to match other areas in the home, made design recommendations for built in shelving/bookcases, and re-did any carpentry work that we felt did not honor our original request, no questions asked. Our project presented several construction challenges given its location on the 3rd floor/attic, including angled ceilings and a stairwell not to building code. Joe and his team were able to overcome these challenges, and others that presented themselves along the way, most of which were unanticipated. He did not ask us for extra money along the way to solve the challenges. When an initial building inspection of our new bathroom revealed that that the ceiling height within the shower was not high enough to meet code requirements (due to the angled ceilings), he worked with his carpenters to lower the floor of the shower, a thoughtful and creative solution. In the end, the aesthetics of the step down shower are even better than we had originally conceived with our plans. As for the day to day construction – all of Joe’s workers, from the carpenters to the tiler to the subcontracted electrician and plumber – were of highest quality and were most respectful of our home. They always cleaned up thoroughly at the end of the day. Many of his workers only speak Portuguese, but we did not find this to a problem, as there was almost always someone on site who spoke English and to whom we could ask a question. Joe was always very accessible and responded to emails promptly, even on most weekends. While the project did take longer than we expected, this was due largely to subcontractor availability and timing. In summary, we would recommend Silmac without any reservations and most highly, regardless of the scope of the project. Joe is very reasonable, accessible, easy to work with and has assembled an excellent team behind him. We could not be happier with the quality of the project, and we look forward to hiring Silmac again in the future."

"Had to call them back for an area that had been missed, but they fixed it quickly. I did have them give me an estimate to remove a barn I had which I thought was far too high."

Small jobs welcome

"If you need plaster work done, I highly recommend Best Pro Builders Inc. I have been renovating a 100-year-old house in Cambridge, and needed some ceilings and walls repaired prior to painting. Erick came to my property twice to help me understand which walls and ceilings could be covered with skim coat plaster, and which needed to be demolished, as the plaster was coming loose from the lath. The crew who did the work were extraordinarily competent and hard working. As the job proceeded, I became worried about the huge mess the ceiling demolition made, but when the crew finished the job, they vacuumed and washed the floors, leaving the place cleaner than it was when they got there. I had received two other quotes for this job, and in additional to excellent work they did, Best Pro Builders Inc. was also the lowest priced bid."

"The work done on two ceilings was excellent and of high quality. They were extremely knowledgeable about their business as well as being very professional. They made sure that they completed the work in a timely and efficient way. They did everything they could to make this work assignment produce the best possible result and I am extremely pleased with everything they completed. I would most certainly hire them again for any additional work needed in my home."

"Bob removed some existing damaged drywall and torn commercial-grade carpet in my basement as well as some unfinished framing. He also reframed ceiling soffits. Then he framed a new utility closet and wall for a future bathroom, put in wall insulation, installed three doors (one of which was a double door), framed and installed a picture window, and installed Pergo waterproof laminate flooring. He painted the ceiling and walls, installed kitchen cabinets, repaired a window sash, and installed and painted trim, including around some lolly poles to make them look like columns. He also installed matching antique bronze door hardware, insulated a cold water pipe that dripped condensation that would have ruined the new drywall ceiling, and made a nice shelf on a half wall as well as some custom plywood doors for a storage space under my stairs. He also installed wallpaper in the upstairs half bathroom. He is meticulous, thorough, and conscientious, and the quality of his craftmanship is very high. My new basement is absolutely beautiful. Since I didn't bid this entire job out, and because the total ran over the estimate that Bob provided upfront (for example, painting wasn't originally estimated, but it made sense to have him do it as part of the job when the time came), I rated him a 'B' in price. I assume that I'm grading the work based on what I think that the job should have cost, but I honestly don't know how to do that. He charges by the hour rather than the job, and all I have to go on to compare is the estimate that Home Depot gave for installing the cabinets, which was roughly the same as his estimate to install the cabinets. However, as I said, I am really happy with the end result and think that he does excellent work and has helpful ideas for saving money in terms of design, materials, and construction. He also cares about details that make a room look finished and complete."

FAQs for acoustic ceiling tiles install projects in Revere, MA

A drop ceiling is a type of secondary ceiling that is dropped down below the actual ceiling of a room, hence the name. It’s made up of ceiling tiles (made of fiberboard, foam, wood, metal, or plastic) supported by a metal grid. The space between the drop ceiling and the structural ceiling can be used to hide wiring, pipes, and HVAC ducts.

Most drop ceiling installations take about two to three days, including the time needed to build the grid frame, install it, and place each ceiling tile properly. Your installation might take more time if you need to modify plumbing, HVAC ducts, or electrical wiring to accommodate the new ceiling.

Most drop ceilings require a clearance of at least three inches from the structural ceiling, though you’ll likely need more than that to make space for pipes, ducts, lights, fans, sprinklers, or wiring. In many places, building codes require a minimum ceiling height of seven feet, which can limit the amount of clearance you’ll have between your drop ceiling and structural ceiling.

Yes, you can paint a drop ceiling, but it’s not always recommended. Painting a drop ceiling can sometimes void your warranty because using improper paint or technique can cause the tiles to sag. Paint can also negatively affect the fire resistance, soundproofing, and light reflection of the panels. Consider these downsides before taking on ceiling painting costs.
