"Daniel and his company were highly recommended to me. They completely remodeled two bedrooms for me, replacing paneling with drywall, replacing the popcorn ceiling, replacing carpeting with wood flooring to match existing flooring in rest of house and redesigned and installed two closet systems. All of the work was the highest quality. I was not able to be onsite and Daniel sent me pictures to keep me up with progress and help me make decisions. He sourced materials and looked for the best design and quality. He kept his schedule as stated, cleaned up carefully afterward and checked back with me to see that he left things in good order."

"Jose and his crew at J & M Elite Contracting were extremely professional throughout the entire process and provided an affordable rate. We had them put up new drywall, level 5 ceiling, and new flooring in our basement and the results were great. I would highly recommend."

"The Project included a small open porch with a gabled shingle roof which led through french doors into the 8 windowed sunroom with a ceramic tile floor, 2 ceiling fans, 6 recessed lights, and 2 suntunnels. Bay windows & a french door were taken out to provide a large open entry into the diningroom and kitchen creating an open concept look. The finished room blends so perfectly with the architecture of the house both inside and out that it looks like it was always there. The project took six weeks as promised and is above and beyond our expectations! The “Ragan team” not only is dedicated to quality materials and workmanship, but also maintaining a positive and unruffled attirude when encountering “bumps along the road” which inevitably happen in a project this size. Paul Ragan's vast experience and ingenuity were obvious throughout the project. We higly recommend Ragan Construction Company!"

"Dario and his crew were nothing short of responsive, kind, professional, expert craftsmen in what they do, and did it all for a fair competitive price compared to the near 10 other quotes we got in the greater Asheville area for our painting and drywall repair project. We needed ceiling drywall repair, popcorn texture removal, and priming and painting done to all ceilings in our 1300 square ft home and Dario’s team got on it quickly for us. The ceilings look immaculate and Dario and his crew will be the only folks we use from here on out for any drywall and painting needs! Not only did they do the job we hired them for so well they touched up our walls too! Yes they’re that good - hire them!"

"I hired these guys to install venting and drywall the ceiling in my shed. They were very responsive, worked quickly, and did a great job. When contacting companies for a quote, Edgar was the only one who picked up the phone right away, and he wound up stopping by to discuss the job that evening. I received a quote a few days later which seemed reasonable considering the amount of work that needed to be done. They don't take credit card payment — only cash or check — but they did give me a list of materials and allowed me to purchase them. Edgar was also very responsive as I texted him with questions about materials. By the end of day one they had the vents and drywall installed. On day two they did two coats of mud and tape. On day three, final coat of mud and the hatch. The shed is 24' x 20.5', with 10' ceilings, so it was not a small job. I was really impressed with the speed and quality of the work. After the job was finished, they walked me through it, gave me a few suggestions for finishing the shed, and told me they would come fix any imperfections I found once I got to priming. I had a great experience overall and it's very likely that I will contact them for future work."

"I have used the Carolina Carpenter (Rick Cox and son) for many years; the most professional and trustworthy of any contractor I have ever hired. This time, the water damage was hardly visible, but behind the facade there was considerable damage all the way to the framing. The problem, caused by improper drainage, was identified by the contractor. He used the very best materials to fix it. Most important, he came back several times to make sure what he did was working as intended. The finished job looks beautiful and I know it will last for a long time. Rick Cox is the best!"

"We loved that they sent a reminder, and that they were on time. Edgar and his crew were very polite, professional, and respectful of us and our home. After the job was done (each day) the put everything back where it was in the beginning. The ceiling looks as good as, or better than it did before the damage. I would highly recommend Paint Asheville."

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:
Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?
What is the best tile size for my project?
What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?
How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?
What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?
Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.
Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.
Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.
Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
Easy to install and repair
Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements
Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance
Available in various styles to suit your design preferences
Cons:
Reduce ceiling height
Tiles may require replacement after a few years
Less sturdy than traditional ceilings
Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall
Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
