"I couldn’t recommend system one interiors more. The only thing I regret is all the time I wasted getting quotes from other contractors who gave me the runaround. Richard From systems1 interior is a dedicated and communicative person that I enjoyed and appreciated working with from beginning to end. I had asbestos popcorn ceiling removed by another company who were not as careful as I would have liked and left the ceiling in pretty rough shape. Richard and his team skim coated the whole ceiling primed and painted it. It looks beautiful and has really made Home feel like home. his team also took out an old AC/heater unit in the wall patched and repaired it like it was never there. He walked me through the process and explained all the steps. He was so thoughtful and took the time to show me pictures of what the end product would look like and even utilized resources I already had to cut costs for me as a homeowner. I really appreciated working with system one interiors! 10/10"

"Everything went as planned. Workers arrived on time, were polite and respectful of my home, cleaned up everyday. There was NO post acostic ceiling removal mess for me to clean like EVERYONE told me I would have! They were so meticulous with their taping off and covering that the entire job was painless for me. They worked around my schedule and were reasonable in their pricing. Matt Clark, owner, was easier to work with and cared very much that I was happy with the work. He provided me the name of an electrician(Summit Electric) that was equally as meticulous in his work. I am going to have Matt and his crew return in the future to do additional work for me."

"All the above services were performed. All electrical covers were removed; holes patched, primed and painted with extra coats of paint as warranted.  Ceilings were inspected and it was determined that they should be repaired, primed and painted within the scope of work.  I wanted the hallway to have an absolute smooth texture and the craftsmen took great detail and time to meet my expectations and the surface is blemish free.  Water damage that existed from my old roof was removed, new dry wall was installed as needed and the surface smoothed, primed and painted in the living room on the vaulted ceiling, above the two windows and above the bathtub in the hall bathroom.
Crown molding and base board was installed, primed and painted in the one room needing this trim.
The crew used plastic sheeting to keep dust from going into other parts of the house and each night they cleaned up so my rooms were able to be be used.  They moved the heavy furniture and draped all furniture.  One of my rooms was painted with a faux metallic finish and as each process was completed any changes that I wanted (more of this color or that) was done within the scope of work.

"With the estimation of agreed work to be done, TME Construction did everything as planned except for installing ceiling boxes due to lack of J box. I don't know if that missing element could have been checked during the time of making the estimation, but I have to take additional steps to hire electrician for that. The bonus for me was I was abled to get that IKEA storage finally put together and placed in my bathroom. Yay!!!"

"KN Remodeling redid my floors, removed a wall and got my JADU permitted, plus many more random fixes. Whatever project I threw at Nathan and his team he got done. They were great and I would use them again."

FAQs for acoustic ceiling tiles install projects in Universal City, CA

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:

  • Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • What is the best tile size for my project?

  • What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?

  • How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?

  • What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?

Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.

Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.

Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.

Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and repair

  • Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements

  • Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance

  • Available in various styles to suit your design preferences

Cons:

  • Reduce ceiling height

  • Tiles may require replacement after a few years

  • Less sturdy than traditional ceilings

  • Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall

Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
