"We were very happy and satisfied with the work done by John Boothe Concrete. They were able to knock the work out ahead of planned schedule and in two days. They even did some additional work for us that was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend them if ever in need of a patio or walkway."

"The Job: We had JP Co. of Centreville knock out and replace our old, deteriorated and very long concrete driveway (762 square feet). Same with the carport area (72 feet by 10 feet). They also poured concrete to replace the old pavers that served as the sidewalk (about 25 feet long by 3 feet wide) that runs from the driveway to our front porch. They also replaced a deteriorated brick retaining wall that ran along the carport area, which was about 27 feet long by 25 inches high. We went with a timber retaining wall, which was a little less expensive than a concrete wall would have been, and was way cheaper than bricks or stones. We think the wood wall looks a little "friendlier" than concrete would have (but it will probably not last as long as concrete). The work: JP did an excellent job in all respects. They completed the entire project in two days, and it all came out very nicely. They also cleaned up, leaving no trace of a mess behind. We got three bids for the job, which were all fairly close, but JP was the lowest. And I was impressed with their customer reviews on Checkbook. Our contact was Paulo Nicola, one of the two brothers who co-own the company. A very nice, knowledgeable and helpful guy who was happy to answer our numerous questions and discuss alternatives and prices with us. Highly recommended. Note: we also had JP and two other contractors bid on this job about 5 years ago, but had to delay it when we saw how expensive it would be. Guess what that accomplished? Instead of paying $12,500 five years ago, it cost about $16,500 in April of 2023. So, my advice is: don't delay your concrete job if you can avoid it -- prices only seem to move in one direction!"

"Repaired my basement concrete landing, re-located the drain to the center of the landing, and sealed the concrete later on. Was easy to work with, communicated his work schedule to me clearly, arrived on time and provided excellent service at a reasonable price. Was 1/2 the price of other bidders but did as good a job as any could do. I would definitely recommend K Hill Masonry, Inc. to anyone in the area."

"We needed our concrete porch and abuting concrete slabs lifted and even thought it was a tricky job, Bryan Rutherford and Austin Hicks carefully evaluated their options and came up with an innovative way to get the job done to perfection. They did a great job cleaning up and were totally professional. I highly recommend their work!"

"The work on the foundation took two days (it should have been done in 1 day.  The actual workers did a good job, unfortunately most of the time there was only one person on site.  NV Waterproofing had to return about 9 months later when we noticed that the soil had settled about 2 feet below grade at the corner of the house.  They came out added additional soil at no cost.
We have not experienced any additional water issues in the basement foundation since the work was completed last year."

"The gravel driveway at our sonâ s home was in pretty bad shape. The culvert at the roadside entrance had rusted over time and was further damaged by a couple of car accidents that bent and disrupted water drainage. We selected Hunterâ s Development, LLC after speaking with Kelly, the owner and seeing all of the super positive reviews on Home Advisor. The entire driveway was graded, then additional gravel put down and tamped to provide a wider and thicker driveway. Twenty feet of asphalt was added to the roadside to provide a smoother and safer entrance and exit. Kelly and crew did a great job at a reasonable price. We highly recommend him and his crew for your driveway needs. Kelly is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We are so very satisfied with the results. Give him a call."

Small jobs welcome

"We had two large projects done on our property by Premium Drainage & Erosion which included installing two French drains, regrading, underground pipes and sealing the concrete floor of the garage (rain was sweeping in from underground). I contacted about 8 different companies, 4 provided estimates and we choose Premium Drainage & Erosion Solutions (ask for Adrian: 571-999-9504; PREMIUMDRAINAGE.COM; premiumerosion@gmail.com). We are very pleased with their work and the pricing was reasonable. The French drains were installed first and a year later they came and cleaned them and fixed an area that started eroding again by installing a catch box. This was all done under warranty. They are through and don't leave until the job is done at high quality and solves the problem. Highly recommended."

FAQs for concrete work projects in Dale City, VA

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
