"From start to finish this company performed like the professionals they are. The salesman came out within a day, got my quote within 2 days and the work was scheduled within a week. The guys were courteous, professional and made their job look easy. I had my sidewalk raised and the crack filled and also had about 6 bricks replaced on my front porch. The work turned out better than I could have imagined! I recommend this company to anyone who needs concrete repairs. Great job to everyone involved!!!"

"Hired them for 3 projects I have installed this basement waterproofing solution in 2 homes. System speaks for itself. Nothing better on the market. Work was first rate. Expectations were presented prior to the project. Details on what would happen and how the project would go. Would not hesitate to use again ERV installed New basement egress. This project did not go as planned, but not at the fault of basement systems. Was originally supposed to get a BILCO door but due to unforseen issues, that was not able to happen. They ended up installing a new staircase from my basement to ground level. Work was first rate and ended up better than a bilco door. Company re landscaped and everything is as it was. All work performed was top notch and no issues on anything they have done"

"Stone wall rebuild:
The crew disassembled the existing deteriorating stone wall which enclosed a Japanese maple and other plants. They dug a trench beneath where the new wall would be installed and installed 6" of CR6. Perforated pipe was installed behind where each wall would be and it was filled with 6" of #57 stone. The walls were then rebuilt with the addition of a pallet of matching Western Maryland stone. The downspout drain was extended under the wall with SCH 40 pipe with a pop-up drain. They seeded and strawed all disturbed areas and installed mulch inside of the stone wall which retained the Japanese maple and other plants and shrub. All of the wall is level and stable and looks great. I had gotten other estimates and they were all about the same, but I feel that no other contractor would have done as good a job.
Front walk replacement:
Removed concrete front walk which was deteriorating and hauled it away. Installed the proper multi-layer base and tamped it down. Installed the pavers in a pleasing "I" pattern with a contrasting boarder. Replaced existing concrete step with wall block and caps that matches the pavers. Installed polymeric sand, swept it in cracks and tamped it down. Reapplied sand, tamped it down and wet it down to activate it. They diverted two drain spouts by the walkout in the rear of the house. They also extended an existing garden boundary, removing the grass by undercutting with shovels and moved the existing stone boundary around the new perimeter. They seeded and strawed all disturbed areas and installed mulch around the pavers. They did such a good job on the wall rebuild that I didn't even get estimates from other contractors for the walk.
Work crew:
All of the work crew on both jobs were polite and were hard workers. They were glad to answer any questions and explain what they were doing. They showed up on time and did an excellent job of cleaning up the work site when the job was completed.
Owner:
Kyle Hodges responded to phone calls and emails promptly and answered all questions. He stopped by periodically to monitor the jobs. I felt that he did more than he had to do make sure that I was satisfied with the work that was being done.

"Austin Wells handled our sinking concrete pad and cracks near my garage. He explained everything, neat, and very professional. My wife and I appreciated how he wore a uniform and conducted himself in as an expert in his field. I would definitely call JES again, in particular, Austin Wells to handle any other concrete leveling issues."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
