Small jobs welcome

Customers say: Quality work

"Ken did a beautiful job repairing cracks in our countertops and sanding/refinishing them. He was careful to protect all the other surfaces and cleaned everything up afterward. He had expected it to be a two-day job but when he saw. he could finish in one, he offered to stay late and finish, which was great. The repairs are absolutely invisible and the counters look great. We might even be inspired to resist putting all of our junk back on them! ;-)"

"The process was smooth and hassle free -We requested a quote for a treated lumber deck for our above ground pool.  My husband had drawn roughly what we were interested in, and when Doug came to the house he reviewed it step by step with us.  He went over which materials he would suggest and gave a range of options to choose from depending on our preference and budget, as well as explaining the process and answering all our questions.  He was very polite, knowledgeable and professional, and I would recommend him to anyone for their home remodeling needs. We did choose to wait on our project for the time being, but will certainly be calling DBC for our future remodeling needs!

"John Desborough and his crew are consummate professionals. My family and I enjoyed working with them on two different projects this year. We remodeled our 1980's kitchen which included installing new appliances, installing a new sink, faucet and garbage disposal, new tile, new LED lighting, installation of a chandelier, installation of new molding around existing cabinets, installation of new cabinet hardware, and some painting. We also installed new concrete countertops but they were installed by a separate group. After our kitchen remodel we took an extensive remodeling of the first floor of our house. The remodel included removal of rug flooring and replacement with a new wood floor that matched some pre-existing white pine floors. They also replaced all of our lighting with new LED lighting, installed custom cabinets, a beautiful new fireplace and they completely renovated our first floor half bath. They also installed a giant, beautiful fan in my family room, some smaller fans in my kids' rooms, a massive modern chandelier in our foyer, and new front doors. Finally, they replaced all of the door hardware throughout the first floor. John has a great crew with expertise in essentially every area of remodeling. They are all great. They show up on time, work hard and clean up when they are done. They are very nice guys too. We have an eclectic design style and they embraced our style nicely. They let us pick out all of the appliances, tiles, doors, etc. and they were great about letting us use whatever vendors we wanted or supplying us with catalogues and so forth. John is extremely fair with regards to pricing and every aspect of his work. I will be finishing my basement this year and upstairs baths next year and I will definitely be hiring John Desborough and his crew, assuming that they are available."

"BEST CONTRACTOR EVER! The project included an exterior ramp, 1st fl laundry & 1/2 bath near the kitchen. I needed the ramp done 1st for an elderly person being released from physical rehab in under a wk. He worked very hard through the worst days of the smoke from the Canada forest fires. He understood ADA requirements and built accordingly. Plus, he suggested things I hadn't thought of like widening the mudroom doorway for a wheel chair if needed in the future & raising the mudroom floor just a little to keep it level with the kitchen floor. The ramp is very sturdy. The senior is using it with great confidence. The interior revamp went very well & was just what our senior needed. Not only did he have the project done in a timely manner, but while walking through Lowes he noticed a stackable washer & dryer 20% off, unopened box. He texted me & we grabbed it! Dave not only knows the construction business but goes above & beyond what's needed and he has a good heart."

FAQs for countertop and backsplash service projects in Ashtabula, OH

Butcher block countertops come in three main styles, each offering a unique look and function. Flat grain, also known as face grain, showcases the natural wood patterns, giving your kitchen a modern and elegant appearance. Edge grain is made from long, narrow wood strips, making it sturdy and providing a consistent grain pattern. End grain features a checkerboard pattern that is highly durable and perfect for heavy food preparation. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and usage needs, enhancing your kitchen's look and functionality.

With proper care, wood countertops can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years. To keep yours looking like new, clean up spills immediately and reseal the surface regularly—ideally once a month in the first year, then twice a year after that. Regular maintenance helps preserve the wood's beauty and durability for decades.

Wood countertops aren't hard to maintain if you keep up with regular care. Simply clean them with mild soap and water after use and reseal them monthly during the first year (then twice a year afterward). Using a food-grade oil or sealant protects the wood from damage. With a bit of routine maintenance, your countertop will stay beautiful and durable.

Wood countertops are sanitary with proper care and maintenance. By sealing them with a food-grade sealant and cleaning them regularly with mild soap and water, you create a barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into the wood. Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to keep it hygienic and safe for food prep.

It's best to oil raw wood countertops once a month during the first year. After that, you can oil them twice yearly to keep them in good shape. If your countertop is professionally stained or sealed, you might not need to oil it as often. Regular oiling helps prevent drying and cracking, preserving the wood's natural beauty and durability.
