"Eve's Formica service did a complete install of countertops in my kitchen. They were professional and ethical in every respect and far exceeded my expectations, making every effort to see that I was satisfied with the job. My countertops are absolutely beautiful. They also repainted my cabinet doors, providing a look of complete update in my kitchen. I am so pleased I chose this installer and would recommend them to anybody. Photos under separate cover."

"First, let me say that OnCall did a fabulous job on the bathroom. It surpassed our expectations.  Their work brought our bathroom up to modern standards. Everybody on the team was very courteous and helpful.

Here are the details:

I contacted in mid April to get a bid on the work.  Beau DeLozier called me back the same day and made an appointment the same week.  We discussed what I wanted and the real need to replace the adjacent walls surrounding the tub (with new tile) to prevent leakage.  The sink was very old and manufactures no longer carry that size so finding a sink to fit in the existing (tile) countertop was very difficult.  I found a sink at Fergusons, but too much of the existing countertop was damaged trying to remove the old sink so it was not usable. We had to settle for a new granite countertop instead.

Because the countertop was a different height, it did not align with the older tile on our wall and we had to deviate from the bid and replace the old tile on the wall with the same tile we used around the tub. In retrospect, this looks a lot better than the original plan to just to replace the tile around the tub, but added and additional $2500 to the bid.

In the original bathroom, we had had linoleum.  Rather than replace it with the same material again, we opted for a Roman style black and white tile.  Again, word to the wise;  check multiple sources for material.  ProSource wanted $10/sq ft for the very same tile I found at HomeDepot on sale for $1.79.  If we has stuck with ProSource for all of the material, our costs would have been considerably more expensive.

The work was completed on August 4th after starting work on June 1st.  I'm not sure this is average, but it was longer than I had expected the job to take.

The Bathroom looks great, but there are a number of things that OnCall could do better.

(1) Improve the communications between various members. The Project Manager for project left to go out of town the week we were going to start the project and no one knew what was supposed to be done that day.  I canceled the work that week because of the confusion.  There were days when I was not at the house and crew manager showed up unexpected.  If he had called, I would have made plans to be there.

(2) Do a better job of communicating changes in cost creep.  It would be ideal to have one Estimate that changed every time there was a change in scope.  The options provided in Estimate is great to see the differences, in cost, but a single estimate after the decision is made with particular options is easier for the homeowner to understand the ultimate price tag.

(3) Great work by the coordinator (Julie).  The project might has stretched out another month if not for her diligence in rounding up the workforce.

(4) Estimating the amount of materials needed for the jobs needs improvement.  We were short on the amount of tile needed and I ended up having to order more.  That set the schedule back 10 days.

(5) There needs to be a quality control person overseeing the work.  There were a number of blemishes that I found in the initial tile work that were fixed immediately once I brought it to the foreman's attention, but I would have expected a greater level of scrutiny by the OnCall staff before I examined the work.

FAQs for countertop and backsplash service projects in Bastrop, TX

Butcher block countertops come in three main styles, each offering a unique look and function. Flat grain, also known as face grain, showcases the natural wood patterns, giving your kitchen a modern and elegant appearance. Edge grain is made from long, narrow wood strips, making it sturdy and providing a consistent grain pattern. End grain features a checkerboard pattern that is highly durable and perfect for heavy food preparation. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and usage needs, enhancing your kitchen's look and functionality.

With proper care, wood countertops can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years. To keep yours looking like new, clean up spills immediately and reseal the surface regularly—ideally once a month in the first year, then twice a year after that. Regular maintenance helps preserve the wood's beauty and durability for decades.

Wood countertops aren't hard to maintain if you keep up with regular care. Simply clean them with mild soap and water after use and reseal them monthly during the first year (then twice a year afterward). Using a food-grade oil or sealant protects the wood from damage. With a bit of routine maintenance, your countertop will stay beautiful and durable.

Wood countertops are sanitary with proper care and maintenance. By sealing them with a food-grade sealant and cleaning them regularly with mild soap and water, you create a barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into the wood. Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to keep it hygienic and safe for food prep.

It's best to oil raw wood countertops once a month during the first year. After that, you can oil them twice yearly to keep them in good shape. If your countertop is professionally stained or sealed, you might not need to oil it as often. Regular oiling helps prevent drying and cracking, preserving the wood's natural beauty and durability.
