"What a great experience at Solid Surface Solutions after going through all the cheapo Seattle area granite countertop shops and the pricey Home Depot type stores. They are very friendly and responsive through all parts of the buying and install experience. We enjoyed everyone at the shop and also the measurement and install people as well.Their initial estimate came in slightly high, but they were very willing to work with us to get near the price of some of the cheaper Seattle shops we visited. We chose to pay a hair more for these guys because they were the most informative and professional place we visited. Their knowledge and pride showed.
Alan, (I believe the owner), was extremely precise and helpful during the measurement process. He gave us several options to make our install work for us, as we did have some cabinet and wall issues that made it not an easy and straightforward situation. Alan educated me to all options and was very responsive to every phone call I had with further questions. I was pleased and thankful to have a patient and professional guy at my beck and call!!
The install went great, and we are very pleased with the look, edges, and seamwork of the granite countertops installed by SSS. We got it done in a day and are thrilled with the look, feel, and ease of use of our new countertops. We went to many many places and got a wide range of estimates before choosing these guys, and are happy we did. My wife said she liked the "feel" of the office and people helping us at Solid Surface Solutions more than any other place we visited. They will work with you on price and do great work. Granite is the way to go!!"

"Jared Lord, owner of Paul Haugen Construction, and his crew are outstanding. They are dependable, honest and do excellent work. Jared's labor and countertop cost for our project was $21, 473,65 (appx. $9K under budget). Our new cabinets, sink, stove top, range hood, tile and garbage disposal were separate costs that we paid for. Regardless, the total cost was below $50K for our beautiful and functional new kitchen."

"They did an outstanding job! They were a real pleasure to work with, honest and reliable. They re-did the entire main floor of my house which included removing a load bearing wall, all new flooring, kitchen cabinets and appliances, countertop, trim, paint, etc. Overall it was refreshing to work with such a professional group of contractors. Will definitely be using them again! Thanks."

"As a member of my condo board we had such a difficult time finding a trustworthy and professional roofing company. We sat with multiple companies only to be left feeling more confused and frustrated by each of them, until we had the pleasure of meeting Elijah team at Near Me Roofing Company. They were so professional and prepared for all our questions and concerns, but what really impressed us was that they held to their word, on time tables, budgeting and most important the quality of work. I would Highly recommend this company."

"Gina was amazing in helping us to pick the most elegant materials to use in the remodel...the backsplash, the carpeting and even the new hardwood floors- i at first was thinking this flooring was to dark, but boy was I wrong..it is beautiful and keep getting comments on how stunning it looks. Gina help me pick the colors for my walls and even help me pick out wallpaper for my powder room that is like art. She gave me the contact to hang the wall paper and Brad was amazing. Once the rest of the finishes are complete, hoping to get on Gina's schedule to stage all of my furniture to complete the showcase of my new remodel. Will definitely hire again and have given her name and website to many colleagues that have seen pictures."

"We can't say enough good things about Eric. From the first time he came over to look at the project, he was a delight to talk to and it was obvious he knew what he was talking about. He carefully went over everything that we wanted to do and even pointed out smaller things that had escaped my notice (for example, nails in the ceiling over the bath that were showing because they had loosened) and said he would fix them. We had other companies come out to give us a bid, but Eric was the only one who gave us a detailed, line by line estimate. We really appreciated that and it was that which ultimately made us decide to go with him even though he was slightly higher than the other bids. Eric kept in touch from then on as we planned the start of the project and made adjustments to what we wanted. Once work started, we were amazed at how meticulous he was. He pays great attention to detail and makes sure everything is exactly right, even if it takes longer. There were no cutting corners and he didn't get frustrated with the problems that came up in a house that was built in 1955. And there were a few - water damage under the tub area that a previous owner had tried to fix himself and which needed to be taken care of, uneven walls and floor, and nothing seemed to be square. Everything was perfect by the time it was ready to tile. Eric himself tiled and grouted the tub area and added a niche for us, all done perfectly. His tile guy did the heated floor, floor tile and countertop and did a super job. His electrician was really good and moved lights, put in a fan, as well as other work we asked him to do. His plumber likewise. All very pleasant people to work with who know what they are doing. I won't list everything that Eric did for us, but there is a lot more. Needless to say, we were happy with all the work done. As a bonus, at the end of every day the place was cleaned up by putting things away, sweeping and vacuuming. It made the remodel a very easy thing to live through. Eric was also a very pleasant person to have in the house. We were sad to see him finish! Another point that we appreciated was that Eric always gave updates on costs as things changed, mainly because we added something, so we knew what to expect and there were no surprises at the end. All in all, we are very glad that we chose Vanderlip Construction and will do so again the next time we remodel."

"We called Vic Steiner and we liked that he was a one-person business, explained our project and asked him to give us a bid. He gave us a few options, and presented us with a detailed bid, which we thought was very reasonable. He estimated the job would take about 4 days and we could tell he really knew his craft. He kept us informed daily what his plan was for each day. The job entailed re-positioning a set of double-doors, framing, sheet rocking, mudding and taping the stair encasement wall for paint ready, trim for a single door, the double doors, a new set of folding doors for a laundry area and a lighting circuit with 3-way switches. He was very pleasant, trustworthy and took great pride in his work. Top of the line craftsman! We are hoping to hire Vic to do our bathrooms this summer. We would recommend him highly!"

Butcher block countertops come in three main styles, each offering a unique look and function. Flat grain, also known as face grain, showcases the natural wood patterns, giving your kitchen a modern and elegant appearance. Edge grain is made from long, narrow wood strips, making it sturdy and providing a consistent grain pattern. End grain features a checkerboard pattern that is highly durable and perfect for heavy food preparation. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and usage needs, enhancing your kitchen's look and functionality.
With proper care, wood countertops can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years. To keep yours looking like new, clean up spills immediately and reseal the surface regularly—ideally once a month in the first year, then twice a year after that. Regular maintenance helps preserve the wood's beauty and durability for decades.
Wood countertops aren't hard to maintain if you keep up with regular care. Simply clean them with mild soap and water after use and reseal them monthly during the first year (then twice a year afterward). Using a food-grade oil or sealant protects the wood from damage. With a bit of routine maintenance, your countertop will stay beautiful and durable.
Wood countertops are sanitary with proper care and maintenance. By sealing them with a food-grade sealant and cleaning them regularly with mild soap and water, you create a barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into the wood. Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to keep it hygienic and safe for food prep.
It's best to oil raw wood countertops once a month during the first year. After that, you can oil them twice yearly to keep them in good shape. If your countertop is professionally stained or sealed, you might not need to oil it as often. Regular oiling helps prevent drying and cracking, preserving the wood's natural beauty and durability.
