"So, I had hired a contractor that began building the fence but it became obvious that he didn't know what he was doing. It was bad enough that codes had received a complaint and needed the issues resolved within the next 4 days (this was on a Thursday, deadline was the upcoming Tuesday). Not only did they show up on a Sunday to begin working, they rebuilt the ENTIRE fence in two days and passed codes with flying colors. They were extremely professional and on time, everytime. "I didn't begin the work right away, mostly because of the weather. When I called in to schedule, I tried to ascertain how much time, generally, these tasks might take, especially because it all had to be done on that day. Given that a good portion of the work involved the exterior, I was worried about rain interfering with the task. The phone scheduler could not herself provide me with an estimate of time for these tasks but got back to me after asking the production manager for advice. She also told me that I had to provide her with a list of all the tasks I had in mind in advance, meaning that if the tasks I had listed were accomplished in one hour, then that would be it--the deal was for UP TO 6 hours, not 6 hours guaranteed. Plus, if the work went over 6 hours, then I'd have to pay $60 per worker per hour. (Wow! I've never made $60 an hour in my life & I'm a professional with advanced degrees!). It is hard for most people to estimate the time these tasks normally take so I was somewhat perplexed about how to organize them. Very nice man with excellent skills showed up on time. I was worried about the rain that was forecast & how that would affect the completion of exterior work. The first task--the front door--took longer than I and he expected because of the door lock. We had to call the company for instructions. Additionally, time was taken up by his going to Home Depot to purchase the door sweep & some lumber to repair a deck slat & a bad area of rot. Fortunately, I own a lot of tools & hardware & could supply some long screws for the door adjustment. I'd advise prioritizing tasks so that those that are most important get done first. The wood rot around 2 exterior doors was done last & I was left with bondo on the rot. It had to dry but since it was raining, it took a while. I had to sand it down the next day & I'll have to paint it. If he had started this process first, then turned to other tasks while it was drying, he might have been able to complete it with a hair dryer before the rain started. Still, he did get everything on my list done & he did go beyond what I expected on a couple of things. He was extremely competent, even gifted. And he did put some time back on the clock because of the unexpected problems with that entry door lock, which was not his fault. Yes, I would use them again and plan to. My son had used them for his house and recommended them to me. My main suggestion would be for them to give customers a ball park estimate of the time it might take for a professional to complete the tasks on their list, with the caveat, of course, that sometimes unexpected complications could arise & affect the estimate. My other suggestion would be for customers to have a prioritized list of everything you would like done, making sure your main concerns are addressed first before the rest of your wish list. That way, once 6 hours has passed, you can have them stop without concern."
