"Everything went very well. Fortunately I had not attempted to use my fireplace before getting it checked and cleaned. There were several problems that the previous owner had neglected to repair. Now everything works well, and the fireplace looks much better! I am enjoying the benefits of having a safe wood-burning fireplace in my family room.

"The man that came out to our house from Granite Works seemed very honest and professional. He was able to come out with short notice. He showed us some granite samples, took measurements, and then gave us a written estimate based on the granite we chose. His price was by far the cheapest of everyone we had already spoken too, and they were running a special that we could get a brand new stainless steel sink (style of our choice) from them for free for getting the entire kitchen's counters replaced! We decided to go with them right there as we had already gotten many other prices. He required half the total job price as a down payment. Just a few days later, he and his team came out to install our new granite countertops and our new sink. Everything went great as a whole. The countertops and the stainless steel sink looked amazing! It was like we had a totally new kitchen. There was one minor setback during the installation process; however, we are fine with the resolution. When they were placing the biggest piece of the countertop, the one that contained the hole cut for the sink, the granite cracked on the surface due to the tops of the cabinets on which it was placed not being all level to each other. The crack was really not noticeable. It was just an extremely thin crack right on the surface. Right away they said that they would scrap it and bring us a new piece in a couple days. However, we were kind of pressed for time, because we were in the process of remodeling the foreclosed home we had just bought. We had different people coming in and out for different jobs and needed everything to be done before our planned move in date. They said that they could seal it with the same stuff that they seal the seams of the counter. We agreed to that, and it looks great. After that they took great care in making sure that they leveled the counter. They had to use wood blocks under the granite in some places to ensure that the counter was leveled on the messed up cabinets. Overall we had a great experience with this company. Our kitchen looks great! If we ever have the money to remodel our bathrooms we will be calling them again!"

"I would HIGHLY recommend this company. We received an estimate for cleaning our chimney and fireplace when purchasing our home and the work ended up being far more extensive than the original estimate (major safety issue was found during cleaning). A&T Chimneys visited our home 4 times over the course of 2 months to finish the work. They worked around our schedules and were always on time, worked hard, and thoroughly explained all the work and future work. They were extremely reasonably priced and we do not believe we would have received anywhere near the same level of service from another provider.

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.
Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.
Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.
Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.
Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
