"My old thermostat was 15 yrs. old and was not cost-effecient by any means.  On a previous visit I discussed this with Drew and he provided me with valuable information regarding my heat/air costs.  Drew also came out a few months ago when I had NO heat during our coldest period of winter.  Within a few minutes the heat was back!!!  I'm extremely satisifed with the service and professionalism that Drew exhibits.

"Mr. Bradsher was excellent. I was able to get an appointment to have my fireplace fixed within 48 hours of contacting him and it's the coldest part of the year! It snowed the day he was scheduled to come and he kept the appointment (although we had to push back the appt time because of road conditions). He was able to fix our fireplace quickly and we're so happy to be able to enjoy the warmth of the fire on these cold nights. We'll definitely use KD Bradsher Gas, Piping, and Appliances in the future and recommend him to our friends."

"I did an extensive amount of research (interviewed 8 contractors) and found Metal works to be the one for me. While they were comparable in price to others, what made the decision was the responsiveness that David, the owner provided. Within a day of coming out to measure he emailed me a detailed estimate outlining all of the work that would be done (the other companies provided me a very high level estimate). Also, David was very responsive to the many different questions I came up with. In addition, he was very helpful in assisting me with making the final color selection.
The crew that came out to do the install consisted of around 8-10 people. They worked very well together and were very in tune with each other. They worked extremely hard to complete the job in one day (7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.). And battled the mid July heat with few breaks. There were a few minor things that needed to be corrected (which one would expect given the amount of time and the heat the crew endured), however, upon contacting David the next day he was very responsive and worked around my schedule to arrange for someone to come out an address the things I was concerned with.
The items that concerned me included:- a small but noticeable crimp in one of the metal sheets on the front part of the roof- exposed calking on the ridge vent facing the street (caulking was black and roof is tan)- vibration of attic ventilation fan- air intake pipe for furnace (was in the shape of an L, but needed to be in the shape of a U)
Within a matter of about two hours each of the items listed above were resolved to my satisfaction."

"The sales representative, Van, came for our appt.  He was here at the time we agreed upon.  We talked, he took measurements and answered my questions and listened to my concerns.  I was concerned about damage to my Leaf Guard gutters, shrubbery and 35 year old Japanese Maple.  He assured me there would be no damage done.  We made an appt. for him to provide an estimate and show us the product.  He returned at the appointed time and showed us the products they would use, described the work to be done and duration.  He gave us his estimate, which included an Angie's List discount of which I was unaware.  His estimate was not the least expensive we received but we felt he carried a superior product and had the training and resources to do the job properly the first time.  We agreed to have his company reroof our buildings.  The delivery truck with pallets of shingles and all other roofing materials  arrived at 6:45 AM (even the delivery man knew about the maple and not to damage it)  The work crew and their supervisor, Steve, arrived at 7:45 AM.  All workmen have attended the Certainteed "school" on   The job supervisor was dedicated to my job and was on site except for about 30 min. when it was necessary to make a run for some wood for repairs.  The roofing crew were on my roof at 8 AM removing the old materials.  They draped huge tarps and put "dams" on the roof edges to prevent old shingles and material from falling and damaging our shrubbery.  They worked solidly, stopping only a few minutes for lunch on site before continuing.  They finished re shingling  the main upper roof and front porch roof by 5 PM, cleaned up all debris and trash and left for the day, hauling that days debris with them.  They were back at 7:45 AM the following day and immediately went to work stripping the garage, back porch and playhouse roofs simultaneously.  They stopped for a short, < 30 min. lunch on site and went back to work, finishing the entire job about 4 PM.   They conducted a thorough cleanup and swept for nails.  The supervisor went on all roof surfaces with a hose to wet down and inspect the finished job.  When he was satisfied, we were invited out to look.  Soon after he presented the invoice which included additional charges for carpentry (removing and replacing wood) and the cost of the replacement wood.  He gave us the warranty and explained it thoroughly.  Both Consolidated Roofing and Certainteed each offer their own.  The Certainteed is transferrable to a new owner.  Finally Steve mentioned damage to the roof as in storms, hurricanes
or tree damage.  He stated that should we have any occurrence that compromised our roof, to call Consolidated and they would send a team to put protective tarps over the damaged area until repairs could be made.  They said what they would do and did what they said.  They are a super group to work with.  Although it cost a little more than another estimate, I feel that we truly did get what we paid for.

"Our first contact with using Sears was when we purchased a furnace/AC unit from them.  The contractor they sent out did an outstanding job, even fixing some of the duct work that had been improperly installed when the house was built.

So, when we decided to have the kitchen remodeled (floor, countertops, backsplash), we chose Sears even though their price was a little higher.  The selection wasn't as great as some, but they had what we wanted, and it was good quality.

Again, the contractors sent out to do the work were outstanding. Their work was high quality, and their manner professional.
Our only complaint was our "project manager", who was a Sears employee, didn't do much managing.  It took quite a few phone calls on our part to keep the project going and find out what was going to happen when."

"Super happy with Dan and Steve! Managed the process from start to finish and stayed within the budget or discussed options and variances ahead of time. Also, came up with creative ideas and scratch built some finish solutions. Crews did good work. Used all the trades, including framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, roofing, siding, flooring, etc. Planning to hire for my next project in the next 12 months."

FAQs for fireplace and wood stove service projects in Rocky Mount, NC

Start with a professional inspection. If damage is limited to a few bricks or the crown, a targeted repair helps keep costs and disruption to a minimum. Severe leaning, widespread mortar failure, or major fire damage usually signals it’s time for a complete teardown and rebuild. Your contractor will outline both price tags, but remember that rebuilding a failing stack is often cheaper than repeated patch jobs and the water leaks or fire hazards they allow.

Cracks provide water with an easy path into the masonry, weakening the bricks and mortar and increasing the risk of collapse or fire. Gaps can also let hot gases and sparks escape into attic spaces. Call a chimney pro as soon as you see cracking so they can seal small joints or recommend a larger rebuild before minor damage turns into a costly emergency.

Smoke rolling back into the room often indicates a blocked flue, a broken damper, or a drafting issue. Have a sweep inspect the damper, flue liner, and any obstructions right away. Most fixes involve clearing debris, repairing the liner, or adjusting the damper so the fireplace pulls air correctly. Don’t light another fire until a professional pinpoints the cause and confirms your system is venting safely.

Most policies cover chimney repairs caused by a sudden, covered event, such as lightning, a fallen tree, or a house fire. They won’t cover damage that stems from neglected maintenance or everyday wear. Review your policy or contact your agent before scheduling work to determine what documentation your insurer requires and what costs you will be responsible for.

Component life spans vary. Clay tile or cast-in-place liners last close to 50 years, while stainless-steel liners last 15 to 20 years. Mortar requires attention every 25 to 30 years, while crowns last 50 to 75 years. Use these numbers as a maintenance roadmap: schedule regular inspections, budget for future upgrades, and replace parts before age-related cracks develop into more significant problems.
