We bought a mid-century home with carpet and soon after closing escrow we discovered beautiful Red Oak Wood floors but they were in need of TLC.  The master bedroom was in bad shape and in need of much attention.  The rest of the house, 2 additional bedrooms, 2 hallways and a living room were in decent shape but still needed work.   

Initial contact: I emailed Mario Diaz via Angie's List, requesting an appointment.  Mario responded within 48 hours, asked me to call him at my convenience to set a meeting date.

Estimate day: Mario arrived on-time, no kidding our appointment was at 11am and he was at our front door at 11am!  He walked in and said, “these floors are beautiful” (which I couldn’t see it at the time).  He walked around and looked at every detail, we shared our interest in staining the floors to a dark stain.  My reason for staining was because I didn’t think the stains and discolorations would all come out.  Mario discouraged us from staining them, which by the way I am thrilled we took his advice.  We also had termite damage in one bedroom which Mario assured me I wouldn't be able to tell where the damage was after the job was done.

Mario provided us with a detail estimate of the work one-day after the walk-through.  The estimate was very fair and we hired him.  We had a few other things going on at the house so we asked to push the work back a few weeks. 

Project day:  Mario and crew arrived on time and started the work immediately.  All floors were completely sanded at the end of day 1, and on day 2 they were cleaned and the first of two top coats was added.   I was then able to see Mario’s vision, my floors looked amazing!  We are very happy with Mario and crew, they were all very professional, respectful, punctual and clean! They cleaned at the end of the work day which is very important considering the amount of dust this job produces.  I also want to mention that one room and one hallway have parquet floors, and those were sanded by hand in order to maintain the integrity and style of the floor.

We are very happy with the outcome, our floors look amazing, brand new and yes I cannot tell where the original stains and termite damage was!!!  Thank you Mario and crew for a job well done!!!

"All original wood floors except bathrooms and kitchen had been covered with carpet for over 50 years with some pet stains by door ways. They were able to sand stains and carpet glue and cover every staple hole . The wood floors look brand new and are gorgeous!!! "I found out the day before new carpet was to be installed that the vendor would not nail/screw down squeaky floorboards.  I called several handymen, and Byron was the only one available to come by that same day.  When he arrived, he tried to dissuade me from installing carpet over what he presumed to be hardwood floors, even though I told him that carpet was being installed the next day.  (It ended up being a non-issue, since we soon found out that we didn't have hardwood floors.)  He explained that he couldn't nail down the plywood planks and would instead have to screw them down to secure them for the long-term.  That tripled the price he quoted over the phone.  After several minutes of negotiating, we agreed upon a price for the floorboard work as well as odds and ends (fixing a running toilet, hanging some shelves, changing an air filter, reattaching a light fixture).  He was friendly and very talkative; I would have been frustrated if I were paying by the hour, but he bid for the job, so I didn't mind.  He was very helpful and thought through the consequences of certain actions before beginning his work.  When asked to take a look at a sprinkler head that wasn't working, he said that he doesn't do that type of work.  Also, he did a short-term fix for our running toilet, but it didn't fix the problem.  (He didn't bid to do any major plumbing help.)  Overall, I was very happy.

"Tony from Arial Builders was amazing. He knows his floors well and advises us on what to install, the pattern, and the finish. Switching from carpet to wooden floors has changed the look of our home. Best money we have ever spent. Ariel Builders did a fantastic job. They were attentive to all details and carefully encased the work area to contain the dust. We put down new floors in 2 rooms and the stairs and resurfaced the wooden floor in the hallway. They did excellent work, and I highly recommend them."
