Without even looking into the problem this guy said the toilet was so old that he was sure the flange was cracked and was too expensive to repair. I showed him to the door immediately. We made an appointment for the next day and Mimi and Pedro arrived on time and immediately diagnosed the problem as a ruptured seal between tank and bowl.
