"Worked with Roger Hostetler from start to finish.  Roger was very professional and very punctual to answer questions or get answers.  The project went very smoothly and as expected (though a little longer than originally anticipated) with some of the challenges my property created and with my requests.  I was very satisfied with the extra time it took for Roger, the contractors and myself to really consider and discuss the challenges of the driveway extension.  Outside of the Driveway extension project, the garage build itself was completed timely.  The concrete contractor team and the garage build team were all very professional and they kept the job site clean. They provide quality work.  I would definitely recommend Coach House Garages!  Thanks Roger for all your assistance!

"Extremely satisfied with the expertise and work of Miles, the garage door repair technician. He replaced both a broken torsion spring and it's unbroken mate. Conducted a thorough inspection of the entire garage door and opener system. Performed lubrication of all the door pivots, the new springs, the rollers, the tracks and the cables."

"The experience could not have gone any better. The spring broke on my garage door last night. I had it fixed the next day, in about 30-min! Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and prepared. Super great to work with. Sam was excellent! Would highly recommend! No hassle when I called and scheduled, and my garage is all good to go!"

"The Tech was knowledgeable and technically inclined; however his cost of repair was EXTREMELY high. A bit uncharacteristic of me not to get multiple quotes before hiring him; instead I called two different companies after his installation was completed and asked them to give me a quote to do the same work with commercial grade springs. They asked to see the pictures of my garage door set up, and the prices given to me were $395 and $450, while Ezra billed me $750. It took Ezra about 2 hours to complete the job."

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Plainfield, IL

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
