"I highly recommend Apex-based "A. Maynor Heating & A/C", who replaced my furnace and the entire central air conditioning system (outside condenser unit, inside evaporator coil, and new refrigerant lines) on 7-17-2020 at my Cary house. I also had them install the new outside condenser unit on the opposite side of the house (where it's in the shade, able to operate more effectively) compared to where the original condenser was (in the direct sun). All of their personnel were very competent, polite, prompt, and a pleasure to interact with, from Christy & Tammy in the office, to Carlos & Louis who performed the initial inspection & diagnosis of the original system that had failed, to Norm who performed the house "load calculation", recommended the appropriate new system, and who (since he's a licensed electrician) modified the wiring at the electrical panel as needed for the new condenser location, to Ramon & Christian who performed the new installation, and to Robert who performed the post-installation check and installed a new condensate pump."

"On the night of the 'deep freeze' (below 20 degrees), both of our gas furnaces failed. Luckily, we have gas logs so we had heat. My husband called Gand M Services, since they completed the installation of the system last spring. We reported that both drain pipes were frozen over, solid ice, and that we had no heat, other than our gas logs in the living room. Gand M sent one of their technicians over to take a look at the situation and confirmed that yes, in fact, the drain pipes had, once again, frozen over. This was on Friday night. Perri, the crew chief who had been in charge of the original installation, was called by Gand M. Perri was just getting off from work and he called us. We told him what was going on. He went straight over to a hardware store and bought heat wraps and any other equipment he thought he might need for the job. We had experienced this situation previously so my husband had already purchased 2 small portable electric heaters with fans, to use for this specific problem. After contacting Gand M, my husband and I went outside, pulled out 2 large plywood boards, 2 metal saw horses, and 2 large plastic tarps, together with painters tape, and created 2 make shift heating baffles over both of our a/c reverse cycle systems, using the portable electric heaters plugged into heavy duty power cords outside. During the middle of the night, the ice in the pipes thawed enough to allow the water to begin to drain out and our furnaces came back on. We had turned our gas logs on and warmed up the rooms using fans for air flow to generate the heat back to our bedroom, then turned off the gas logs. The next day, Sat., Perri was at our home bright and early and got started. He removed all the baffling materials, finished thawing and removing the drain pipes from both furnaces, wrapped them with heating tapes, installed thermostatic controls with new electric sockets in our attic, wrapped insulation around the drain pipes, and reattached everything. Then he double checked everything in the system to insure it was working correctly. There was no charge for a half days intensive labor. Since one of the thermostats (Special efficiency) was still showing a problem, he called another technician who is trained in this, to come on Monday to check this and find out what was the further problem. The second technician found the water condensation drain pump had apparently burned out, either from 3 years of use or as a result of the drain freezing and over heating the pump. This was changed and we were charged $205 for this. We had received $100 in coupons from Carrier from our previous installation of their new equipment, so we used these coupons together with a check for $105 to pay the bill. Gand M Service responded quickly and Perri did a terrific job of working to insure our systems worked and we had heat again. Whatever he wasn't trained to fix, he called in another person to resolve from Gand M. Together they got everything working and we have been very pleased."

"Carolina Comfort installed a new HVAC system at our home. They did a great job from the original recommendation on the type of unit- a ducted split system- to a quick scheduling of the work- and lastly installing the system. Ryan, Dylan and John were great- very polite and professional and got the system and fully installed and running within the time frame promised. Would definitely use them again."

"Streamline Services is my go to place for plumbing and hvac repairs. I always have fantastic and speedy service. My last service call was truly exceptional and worth taking the time to review. I knew I needed my water heater replaced, and also a repair to my air conditioning system. I didn't feel pressured, and the technician answered every question I had, and I did not feel rushed into any decision. From the first phone call, to the time of install, I received nothing but great customer service. I won't call anyone else."

"Jason Hogg did an exceptional job installing our new hot water heater. We have an Apollo heating system which largely depends on hot water flowing to HVAC. No water heater =No heat. The tank he replaced had lots of issues many due the last technician who installed it. Between water pressure way to high, Inappropriate ventilation, and several other deep concerns which basically broke down a 5 year old water heater. Jason was excellent at explaining what went wrong and what & why the new heater was need. We now have a bigger tank hooked up correctly! We will be adding better ventilation for the new tank. There were also issues with the older turning handles on our main water shut off that he replaced. I also must add that we had another before technician before Jason who came to service our water heater we requested. He informed us what we needed a technician for the Apollo systems water heater. Problem: quote way to low Jason dealt with our rage over price diff. He was fabulous a"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Carrboro, NC

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
