"Cahill installed my new furnaces in a professional manner and the units work very well. The annual service is thorough and complete. I am confident that the units are well maintained and not just given a cursory service. Installation of the ducts was done quickly and professionally and their advice helped me make the right decisions. They showed up to perform the work at the agreed time and completed the work efficiently. I didn't have to allocate a block of hours during which they might show up -- as with most service companies. I'm very pleased with this company."

"We decided to replace an outdated AC unit and furnace with a brand new heat pump and furnace. After speaking with a Four Seasons sales rep, we knew they were the best choice to go with due to their thorough assessment, knowledge of products, availability of service and overall transparency. And perhaps most importantly, they were not pushy and respect our decisions on what system we felt was best for our home. As with any expenditure of this nature, there will be some ironing out of details and inevitable bumps to get everything completed, but the overall experience amounted to an energy-efficient HVAC system that was installed with care and expediency. Their service technicians are also friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and available at a moment's notice. We are so glad that we went with Four Seasons."

"In the middle of the night on 2/2/22 during a snowstorm, my furnace went out. I texted Carlos at 7am, and by 10:30am he had replaced the blower motor, and I had heat. Besides that, my furnace is running more quietly than it's ever run before. Very impressive."

"These guys were great. Not only did they do all the furnace ducts. The proprietary dryer duct was disassembled cleaned and reassembled at their incentive. I’ve had other services show up at my doorstep with a fraction of the equipment and I turned them away. Mr. Duct is the only duct cleaning service I will ever recommend. The extra money is MORE than worth it."

"Rick came to my home and gave us a proposal to remove and replace our old furnace and electric water heater. His cost was more than fair. Craig came early on the scheduled day. In no time he had the old equipment removed. The new equipment installations were all completed the same day. My experiance with C.R. Mechanical Services was better than expected. Rick and Craig were both friendly and professional through-out the whole project. I will highly recommend them for anyone in need of a HVAC contractor."

"Service went well.  Dre showed up on time and quickly began working.  He checked all parts in the furnace and took the time to explain how my specific high-efficiency 2-stage furnace worked along with pointing out the parts, the heating process and how it worked - very informative and even made it easy to understand!  I am pretty good at monthly filter changes, so I wasn't really expecting anything to be majorly wrong and fortunately there wasn't except for a pretty dirty filter in need of changing, which I was out of - and typically I always have a couple on hand - a little embarrassing on my part!  He also asked when was the last time I had flushed the water heater, it had been a while, he suggested it should be done annually and told me how to do it and the tools I would need to pick-up at the hardware store.  Oh, and by the way, he's a great story-teller!  Somehow we got on the subject - why is it that major hvac or plumbing emergencies often seem to happen when it is most inconvenient - on holidays when most companies are closed!  He shared a true, wonderful Christmas Eve experience he had when he was called to a home with no heat; it almost sounded like one of those Christmas miracle, feel good Hallmark movies!  I would definitely use this company again, and even request Dre, he did a thorough job on my furnace, provided me with great maintenance tips, and even an entertaining holiday story!  Bonus!"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Great Lakes, IL

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
