    Areas Of Expertise: HVAC

"Okay, this company is incredible. Long read, so bear with me. Let me just say I went into this process pretty rattled because I was trying to fix my parents HVAC System from another state after it broke. To my dismay, not one but two major companies in the area completely butchered the job, and were trying to charge us for completed work while the system still wasn't functional. Then one tried to pressure me with false interest rate expiration time frames. The very same company was jacking the prices so high that when they took some of the cost away to appear like they were helping, it still was highway robbery. We caved after 6 hours of dealing with absolute nonsense on the phone, and we took the "deal." It wasn't sitting right that the price was so high and the interest rate was at the ceiling and I wanted to keep looking even though it was close to 9pm California time. So when my mom brought Prime Energy to me, I called late not expecting to get an answer and hoping that I could find someone who felt less icky to me, even if the rates were lateral. I was shocked. Leonel actually picked up. He listened to my story and took time with me. then he assured me that I was still in the clear after my mother signed the contract with the other company because of a mandatory 3 day grace period. He guided me through the process of how to cancel the contract with the other company and he was at my Mom's house the next day. I kept asking skeptical questions after my bouts with the other companies and he was kind, patient and helpful. he called me through every step to verify that what he was purchasing for parts was okay with me. he was transparent about rates, helped with the loan servicing company paperwork, and got the furnace installed in 1 day. It was unbelievable. He came back and did our AC unit, made sure it was all up to code for the inspection the following week. We haven't had this level of service and care since the 90's. We hired him for our water heater replacement about a month later. Also done in one day and he saved us $800. With the HVAC system replacement, considering the life of the old loan stacked against Leonels servicer, He saved us roughly $25,000. This admittedly was a learning process for me and Leonel was there helping every step of the way. I can't say this about many companies, but we aren't going anywhere else with our business. Prime energy is personal, available, transparent, hardworking, trustworthy and of the utmost integrity. He isn't here to take advantage of people; I can tell his business model is about meeting people where they are and trying to help them how he can. You should absolutely give him a shot. You won't regret it."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a furnace?

+

A furnace generates and distributes heated air throughout your home. A vital part of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system—though it does not cool air—you activate a furnace when you set or adjust the temperature in a room using the thermostat. Furnaces can run off natural gas, oil, electric, or propane.

How long does a furnace last?

+

The average gas furnace lasts 15 to 20 years, though some electric furnaces can last 30 years or more.

  • Gas furnace: 15–20 years
  • Electric furnace: 20–30 years
  • Oil furnace: 15–20 years

In addition to furnace type, your unit’s lifespan also depends on its size and the heating system you have—two-stage furnaces are more efficient and less likely to break than single-stage furnaces.

Having a reputable HVAC technician perform annual furnace maintenance and inspections can help ensure you get the most out of your unit. And, as always, change your filters regularly—a dirty filter can block airflow and overwork the motor.

How often should you change your furnace filter?

+

You should change your furnace filter every one to three months to help maintain air quality, keep energy costs in check, and extend your unit’s lifespan. If people in your home have dust or pet dander allergies, you may consider changing your filters more regularly. Looking for an even simpler guideline? If the filter is dirty, replace it.

How much does a new furnace cost?

+

The average cost of a furnace unit is $2,300 to $7,200, plus $150 to $500 per hour for installation. Furnace replacement prices depend on the type of furnace you need, its size, and local labor costs.

  • Gas: $3,800–$10,000
  • Electric: $2,000–$7,000
  • Oil: $6,750–$10,000
  • Mini-Split: $2,000–$15,000
  • Geothermal: $4,000–$17,000

If your furnace installation requires new gas lines or additional ductwork, add $250 to $800 for the gas lines and $3,00 to $5000 on average for the ductwork to your overall project costs.

How much do heating & furnace contractors typically cost?

  • Lodi, California Average
    $3,241
  • Typical Range
    $2,000 - $4,620
  • Low End - High End
    $400 - $6,000
