"Went very well. The team was punctual and reliable. Also, they came with a full crew and, although I doubted they could get it done in one day, they did. Additionally, they did a nice job on a request to paint a couple areas of floor + the basement steps, which turned out very nice. Would use again."

"From start to finish, Pasko was a true professional. His initial visit to review the job, discuss the details, and provide a quote was done quickly and he was ultimately the most competitive of all the vendors who quoted. We asked him to paint all the dark cherry cabinets on our first floor white, and our second floor bathroom cabinets a nice light gray. His prep work to get the cabinets ready for painting was very thorough, and he did great job protecting all the areas around the cabinets from paint overspray/drips/etc. As he worked, he provided phone calls and texts each day to keep us updated on the progress. The finished product is stunning and has changed the whole look of our home. We are definitely keeping Pasko on our short list for any future painting projects both inside and outside the house."

"I had Clean Cut Painting paint several rooms in my house, and the experience was excellent. The painters were friendly, detail-oriented, and completed the work neatly. The colors look beautiful, and the walls have a smooth, professional finish. They also cleaned up everything after the project was finished. I would definitely recommend their painting services to others."

"James was outstanding and did everything he quoted and was on time for the quote, power washing and paint job. He was east to work with and even did more work than he quoted and save us from having to paint one wall ourselves. We did the lower part of the house and he did the upper parts, dormers and chimney. I only wish we had more painting needing to be done because I will be going back to him and in the future. I will definitely refer my family and friends to have James quite for their painting projects. A++++ in my book."

"This is the third time we've used Somerset Painting and I will continue to use them and recommend them to others. They first stained our banister, then painted our entire interior, and now our basement. We've had a different team of painters each time and each team was prompt, professional, performed quality work, and were trustworthy. We have been completely satisfied with each project and felt they were very fair with their pricing. Thank you Somerset Painting!"

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.
Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.
Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.
You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.
Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.
Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
