"Painted the exterior of a three bedroom rambler in three colors. No problems at all. I contacted Shane in late July, when his summer schedule was already pretty full. He gave me an estimate the next day and put me on the schedule for late Sept or early Oct. Shane, Sev, and Ricky painted the house in late Sept. They power washed, scraped, primed, and then painted, taking a week for the entire job. The quality was excellent. Shane and his crew were pleasant to deal with. I would definitely recommend Monarch Painting."

"We strongly recommend Schultze Painting. Steve was very professional. He came over to our townhome and viewed what we wanted done. He gave us a written bid on what the project would cost and a timeline of when the project would be completed. His cost was very reasonable. He provided all the paint and supplies needed. He always took special care of the property and always cleaned up after himself. He completed the project on budget and on time. It was a pleasure to work with Steve and we would be happy to use his services again."

"Todd and his crew did an excellent job. Our interior had not been repainted in over 20 years, so there was a great deal of patching and prep needed. We couldn't be happier- they were meticulous, and the house looks new again. We will be using Shelton Painting again in the spring for kitchen cabinet refinishing."

"We hired Hadley’s painting to paint multiple rooms and a two story stairwell. Todd was very prompt and professional. He was very detailed in preparing the rooms before painting. We are extremely pleased with the work and look forward to using Hadley’s painting in the future."

"Working with Andres at Hernandez Painting was great! His team painted our kitchen cabinets and did a fantastic job! There was a little chipping at first because we used the cabinets too soon but they came back and touched it up! Will definitely use again!"

"Lane the owner and his team are exceptional -- prompt, thorough, conscientious, and professional. I've had several friends and relatives hire Eclipse to paint their homes, all of whom have been extremely satisfied with the company's outstanding work, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. This painting company is about than just painting your house - it's about the prep work that will make the job last, as well as the attention to detail that makes the finished product look spectacular. Our Craftsman-style 1916 stucco home and expansive cedar deck have never looked better. 5 Stars! Highly Recommended!"

"We had a great experience with Leo and the Highrollers Painting crew. Leo was super communicative every step of the way, happy to share his knowledge and suggestions when asked. With good humor and professionalism, Leo and his crew solved the one minor hiccup (which was in no way their fault at all) during the job quickly and without drama - the paint store had not properly mixed the paint the first time. I felt very involved in the process and knew that I was going to get exactly what I wanted. The end product is gorgeous and it’s clear that this crew knows what they’re doing. They painted the siding, trim, garage door, window boxes, shutters, and my front and back door. It was a huge job and they made my house look fabulous. I would not hesitate to hire them again and would definitely recommend them to anyone asking."

FAQs for painting projects in Bloomington, MN

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
