"Dan's crew were excellent.  The bathroom needed repair prior to painting; he really worked with me.  Next, the  livingroom ceiling needed to be replaced with sheetrock, trim needed to be removed, some furniture needed to be moved..  Everything was completed in a professional manner; plastic was covering a bay window, the entrance between the livingroom and dinningroom; the molding was carefully removed, the sheetrock was installed, taped and painted.  Dan and his crew continued with two coats of paint in the livingroom, up the stairs and landing.  They were awesome.  The bathroom looks great.  He's currently working on another job for me.  And yes, I did use Dan again--I was pleased with everything.  During the first job, I was very sick but his crew took over andwere very professional with everything.

"They didn't really pay attention to detail. They slept paint on outlets door knobs window sills that another company had to clean or clear the paint so that I could open the windows lock doors and to use the outlets. They also recommended me to purchase an enormous amount of paint that I never used."

"Kiefer custom painting has painted two homes for me. They have been quick, affordable, and have delivered quality product by transforming the inside of my home. Both times kiefer custom painting was up against an old house with a lot of finish work to make the walls look new again. They completed the task and worked around my family needs and pets. Call them whenever you need any interior or exterior paint projects. 10/10"

Small jobs welcome

"Andy is a true professional. He helped me prep my 1940s brick colonial to put it on the market by prepping (scraping & sanding), priming and painting almost all of the interior rooms and ceilings, plus the exterior back patio and front entry area + door. He arrived early every day and usually stayed into the evenings (sometimes till quite late) to get the job done within a tight deadline. I was super impressed by his conscientiousness, thoroughness, attention to detail and overall helpfulness and good cheer. I would not hesitate to hire him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a super-dependable house painter!"

FAQs for painting projects in Clifton Heights, PA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
