"The entire project went extremely well. When I received his bid - which was more thorough than other bids - I was surprised because the rate quoted was very similar to others. Paul is a true professional, his attention to detail is outstanding, and all of his work is exceptional. Bottom line - I would highly recommend Sunshine Painting. I plan on hiring Sunshine Painting for any future painting needs."

"

Our 70-year old home was looking quite sad with paint peeling on every side, rotten boards, and a general sense of neglect. We were unsure of what could be done to get it back into shape.

Of all the paint contractors we contacted (5 in total), Tyler from Shades of Rose put us most at ease. His bid was very competitive for the amount of work and he was honest, straight-forward, and patient with whatever questions we had. His crew arrived on time every day, were courteous and professional, and cleaned up thoroughly every day. They even removed and reinstalled our crazy storm windows without a complaint - which was a herculean task (Tyler said afterwards that they were the most difficult the team ever had to deal with).

At the end of the last day when we had our final walk around, I was amazed at the transformation of our house. I think Shades of Rose did a tremendous job and I am thankful that we invested in them. Also outstanding was Tyler's reassurance that they would come out to fix up anything that bugged us over the next few weeks. We also have a 3-year warranty and the crew will come out if there are any issues over that time frame.

I would definitely recommend Shades of Rose and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

"Topview did a great job and I would hire them again. We needed a decent paint job for resale and they were willing to communicate about what we could do for the price we could work with."

"Great job across the board! Reliable, professional, neat, clean and tidy. Finish job looks great, I appreciate the time they took to properly prep for new paint job. I think a paint job is only as good as the prep job before painting. Anyone can spray paint all over the place but these guys were obvious professionals. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ABF to anyone."

"Wow. Peter laid Ann Sachs marble on our kitchen floor. We wanted a herringbone pattern, which is more difficult. He was the only contractor we met that actually talked with us about exactly where the eye would be drawn in determining the direction of the herringbone and the centering of it (we have an odd layout in the kitchen). He finished on time, on budget and always cleaned up the site at the end of the day. A year later, we had some loose tiles - it turned out that it was a manufacturers defect. He worked with the tile company and fixed everything as good as new. I have never had a contractor so willing to stand behind his work."

"Ken came out within a couple of days of my contacting him to look at our house. A few days after that we had a quote in hand. The initial price was just a little over what another contractor quoted us but Ken applied an Angie's List discount and the price was right on. We chose Ken's because his contract was thorough, he explained things well and he was quick and easy to work with.
Ken's team was supposed to start at 8am Monday morning and they were sitting out front at 7:45 waiting to start. The foreman walked the exterior of the property with us and we talked about trim and paint. He made suggestions and we made a final plan within a couple of minutes.
The whole team got right to work sanding, caulking, taping, etc.. Everyone in our family headed out to their various locales for the day and I got an email from Ken at 2:30 letting me know that his painters would be done the same day. When we got home about 5pm the house was done, everything was clean and the painters were gone. The small equipment trailer stayed parked at the curb over night but was gone by the time we were up in the morning.
This being our first house painting experience, we were very pleased with the workmanship and ease of the job. We have had comments from all of our neighbors about how good our house looks and how professional the painters were when they were at our home.

FAQs for painting projects in Government Camp, OR

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
