"We hired Paint Boys Plus to paint and repair a large area with vaulted ceilings in our split foyer. There were stains and damages on walls done by pets and children which were flawlessly covered. Our downstairs had several large holes where we had insulation placed in the walls but the drywall had not been finished. I was so impressed with the speed and phenominal job done in one day ..I asked to have the bathroom wall repaired and painted. He quoted prices by phone and completed all work in two days. We are trying for refinancing and this was recommended to have the house show well. His prices are reasonable. His staff are expertly skilled...polite and courteous. This was a big job completed in two days....even without the help of my retired Hubby and two Puggles. I will hire them for future work as needed. I highly recommend Wendall and his staff... Paint Boys Plus for all your paint and repair needs. No job too big or too small. Quality work..satisfaction guaranteed! Very Satisfied Customer!!!!"

Customers say: True professional

"I've hired Charles to do two interior painting jobs now. My VERY picky best friend also used him and was equally pleased. Quality is good. Price is very fair. Charles is extremely professional and also gives me thoughts about what will and won't work. He also caulked some of my ceiling cracks (which wasn't being painted) as part of the job which I really appreciated! Would recommend Charles to anyone."

"Excellently! Even though this work occurred during the Covid 19 crisis, JW staff were on the job. They performed several small jobs around the house including finishing our floors to our basement, patching damaged /touching up paint from moving in to our house, changing out our bathroom sink, fixing a leak in our bathtub, and installing a screen on our fireplace. We left the house during the work and left them the paint and stain to use. It turns out that we had provided the wrong color for one of the walls and they had to go out and get paint on their own. They did not tell me that they had an issue and took care of it on their own. I was very impressed with their service!"

FAQs for painting projects in Helen, MD

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
