"I hired this company in November to do a small drywall ceiling repair. They did such a great job I decided to get an estimate for complete removal of 20 year old tile in my laundry room, kitchen, dining room, living room, hall, hall closet, bathroom and bedroom. They also demoed a half wall separating my dining room and living room and a wall in my bedroom closet. They installed new tile, repaired drywall and replaced baseboards throughout the whole house, about 700 sq feet total. They also referred me to a great refinishing guy to do my other bedroom floor. He will answer your call anytime day or night. He is extremely knowledgeable about what he does. I will refer him to anyone I know that needs work done. "David is the most kind, honest, reliable and trustworthy man I've had the pleasure of working with. He went above and beyond every time he was at my house. He refaced the cabinets in my kitchen and master bathroom and installed soft-close on the doors and drawers. He took a two-tiered bar top down to one level and installed my dishwasher, beverage center (similar to a wine fridge) and the new cooktop stove. He also demoed our master bath down and installed dry wall and Durarock in the wet areas as well as replaced the toilet in that bathroom. - How long have you been in business? A long business history helps you avoid shoddy companies. It’s hard for a service business to stay in business if they don’t do good work.
- Are you licensed and insured? Not all states require a license for painting homes, but many do. Always use one that’s insured.
- Do you belong to any professional organizations? You’ll find many online, like the Painting Contractors Association or the Finishing Contractors Association?
- Do you have other work I can look at? Always check a portfolio or, in the case of painters, it’s better to look at work they did a few years ago to see how well it’s held up.
- How long will the job take? Get a rough estimate but get it in writing.
- How many people are in your crew? This is especially important if you work remotely. More people generally means more noise, but they’ll be done faster.
- Will I be in the way if I’m home during the painting? You usually won’t be in the way, but this question helps you understand what to expect while they’re working. They’ll need to lay down coverings and do a lot of prep work.
- Do you guarantee your work? Never hire a painter who doesn’t guarantee their work. This often means they’ll rush the prep work, since peeling never happens right away.
