"We had previously hired Paz Painting to remove popcorn from the ceilings in 2 rooms and hired his crew again to do the same in our dining and living rooms, an entryway and the upstairs stairwell ceiling. They also painted several rooms. They did a great job in both regards and did a nice job of cleaning up when done. Narciso is easy to work with and I would definitely hire his company again."

"Our experience with Cruz Home painting couldn’t have been better. Jesus Cruz was prompt, and pleasant to work with every step of the way. He provided a detailed job description at the outset, and went out of his way to provide stain samples and advice before starting the work. He is a perfectionist, and paid attention to the smallest details along the way. We will definitely hire him again for our next project."

"Five Star painted the main interior space of our house including white ceiling, almost all trim and doors and the walls. Great quality paint, excellent application and completed in less then 2 days. Everyone involved wore a mask. Got get advice on how to deal with our front door whose original stain had badly faded. Fair price."

"I was very impressed and highly satisfied with the work by Jamal and The Painting Company team on the painting of the exterior of my home. Jamal and crew paid attention to detail and worked with me to identify areas needing repair, suggested options as to quality and price of paints, and showed great care to move and protect items around my home as they worked. They even worked around a robin’s nest while Mama bird hatched and fed her babies! Their pre-painting preparation and post-painting clean-up reflected the care and quality of their work. I received quotes from multiple painting companies, and The Painting Company delivered the highest value and quality for the price. I would highly recommend The Painting Company, and would gladly contract them in the future."

"We’ve used International Painting several times over the years and they always deliver excellent, high quality results on time and on budget. Last week they power washed our house, deck, and driveway; painted the foundation; stained the deck; resealed the driveway; and repainted front entrance. We’re delighted that our 30-year old home looks brand new! Fermin and his team are prompt, polite, and professional. Fermin shared his insurance without asking and the team cleaned up every day. We’re extremely happy and will use International Painting again in the future for some interior work."

FAQs for painting projects in Raleigh, NC

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
