"Tim came to my house and gave me a comprehensive estimate to power wash and paint the exterior trim, garage door and deck. Explained everything in detail. Since it was the summer and due to the heat he said best wait until the weather cooled off. That made sense. A few days before starting the job the house and deck were extensively power washed. Branden did a great job. He spent a lot of time doing it right. The next week a team of 2 or 3 started the job. Before painting they spent a good deal of time caulking areas of need. Patrick, Branden and Chad took care to protect the house with drop cloths and were very neat. They used Sherwin-Williams Duration, a highly rated paint. The hard-working crew did an excellent job. As they were close to finishing they had me walk around and point out anything that needed to be touched up. They quickly took care of these areas. Everything looks new again. I highly recommend All-Pro Painters and told Tim when the inside of the house needs some paint I'll give him a call."

"I was in a pinch and needed my bedroom painted. Also painted my mother’s house before she moved. BTP came out and gave a very competitive quote both times. Exceeded my expectations. Thanks for making it easy."

"Amiri arrived to power wash my house. He was both couteous and professional, and asked if I had any questions regarding the process. He did an excellent job and I wouldn't hesitate to hire Power House Painting again. It was the second time I used them. They're a quality company with quality employees."

"He is dedicated to the work that he does. He is very neat and clean with his work. Did not get any paint on anything in the room because he covered every surface in the room, including the floor. I will be glad to refer him to family and friends! He really took care of the problem that I had and did a wonderful job at it. We are totally satisfied."

"Mr. Kevin Carey and his team were always punctual, professional, efficient, and did an excellent overall job in painting the exterior of my home. Mr. Carey genuinely cares about his customers and their satisfaction in the services he provides. I would not hesitate to recommend Careyâ s Painting for exterior painting requirements, or any other services they offer. In fact, I have already contracted a power washing in about a year to maintain the exterior finish and any follow up painting requirements. Thank you Mr. Carey!"

FAQs for painting projects in Suffolk, VA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
