"Dave Barone of Barone Professional Painting did an excellent job of painting all interior surfaces of our two bedroom townhouse. It included painting all ceilings, walls, baseboards, doors, and window embrasures. Especially challenging was painting the large cathedral ceiling over the living/dining area. The walls and ceilings received two coats of paint. He was courteous, polite, easy to talk to, and punctual. He started the painting on time, as promised, and worked hard to finish the job on time. His price was very reasonable and the paint job was professionally done. I plan to hire him again for exterior painting of our townhouse."

"The team was extremely professional. They prepared all interior and exterior services thoroughly, taking off all old and peeling paint. They worked efficiently and were respectful of the tenants. They addressed all the issues we discussed in the contract and the result is a clean, refreshed inside and outside."

"The entire process of having my deck and window medallion painted by Image Works was extremely positive. Everyone who helped me with this painting project was very professional and helpful. Kaylyn in customer service, Nate who came out and gave me the quote, Rick who did the power washing, Rege who helped me choose paint color and Max who did the painting all were wonderful! I highly recommend Imagine Works this is my second time using them and I will continue to use them for my painting needs."

"Jeff of Linkowski Painting did an awesome job painting my living room, dining room, master bedroom two bathrooms, and stairwell. He totally transformed my space. He went above and beyond by re-staining the original woodwork, removing previous overpainting and fixing scratches. Jeff arrived when he said that he would and stuck to his contract. I'm extremely happy with everything that he did for me. I will definitely hire him again for any painting that I need to have done in the future. He is professional and meticulous. I can't praise his work enough."

"Martin and his crew removed wallpaper and painted nearly half of our home and we are thrilled with how it turned out! He responded to my inquiry within a day and came out to give a quote within a week. Martin offered us a reasonable and fair price for the amount of work to be done and was spot on with the estimate of how long the job would take. The work was done in 5 days and they were extremely courteous, clean and efficient while here. We highly recommend Painting Pittsburgh and will definitely be using them for future projects!"

FAQs for painting projects in Carnegie, PA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
