Small jobs welcome

"We hired TG Painters to paint/stain the entire exterior of our house and do a small drywall repair followed by paint on a ceiling. Drywall came out great. They did a fantastic job staining wood siding and painting trim and doors. We asked them to add window frames while the job was in progress and Tyler agreed without issue. The crew was friendly, did a great job keeping us informed and double-checking their work at the end, and took pride in quality work. I definitely recommend these folks."

"Went very smoothly- workers were very diligent in performing the work necessary for preparing and painting. Torey and Evan were on time every day and I can’t say enough about how satisfied I am with their work. Will hire them again in a minute. They went beyond what I expected. So thankful for painters like them!"

"Alic did an amazing job, he showed up every day that the weather cooperated in order to get the job done in a timely manner. The deck was unfinished wood prior to him coming and now it looks incredible! We would definitely hire him again for any other painting needs, interior or exterior!"

"Nate and his team were fantastic to work with. They took the time to understand our needs and provided fair pricing for both interior and exterior painting projects. Most importantly, the team was reliable—they showed up every day and worked consistently until the job was finished. Unlike many others, they didn’t disappear mid-project to work on something else, which I truly appreciated. I highly recommend Nate and his team for your next painting project!"

"Jim did a great job! Jim suggested a crisp linen trim over the stark white trim I had before and it was a huge improvement! He did a lot of patching and repair work too (it’s an old house!) ceiling, walls, trim around 3 big windows, inset cabinet with drawers, two doors and radiator painted nicely!"

"A Picasso of paint, Paul returned my call immediately, was the absolute best estimate, and performed the work in record time. He and his friendly and affable crew painted my kitchen cabinets in a timely fashion, and the work was perfection. I am loving my newly painted kitchen cabinets. His work has changed the atmosphere of my dark dull kitchen. Picasso Paul rocks. I would recommend without hesitation."

"DC painting came highly recommended and we were not disappointed From our initial meeting and estimate DeSean was very professional and had a great wealth of knowledge concerning what needed to be done. At all times he was timely and very careful to make sure that that we were impacted by such a large in as least a way as possible. He only used high quality products which we appreciated. We are very pleased with his work and would highly recommend DC painting."

"Jordan Martinez came over promptly. We discussed what areas in the kitchen and dining room that were to be painted. Jordan contacted another painter named, Angel to see if he would be available to do the painting job the next morning. Angel, who is a very polite, and a hard working young man, agreed to do the job which was done on Saturday and Sunday. Both the kitchen and the dining room areas were painted with two coats of paint. Two coats on the ceiling, two coats on the walls, and the trim. We are very happy with the end result. We would highly recommend Jordan Martinez/ Putnam Coastal Painting, and Angel who did the painting job. Sincerely, Al and Liz"

FAQs for painting projects in Scarborough, ME

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
