"It is with deep satisfaction that I recommend Gradys Painting and Plastering & Construction. Mr. George Grady is a skilled craftsman. He was hired to correct long neglected and extensive masonry and window issues on a large, beautiful Presbyterian Church built in the Civil War era in Philadelphia. The property was neglected with only minimal maintenance performed over the last 40+ years. The building was in severe decline and in need of stabilization and restoration on many fronts. Cracked ledge plates were chipped out and reestablished, internal walls damaged by leakage were broken out and repaired, brickwork was repointed and in severe cases reestablished to original strength and beauty. Leaks around the base of the building were addressed to stabilize deterioration of the foundation. Large rotted window sills under beautiful stained glass windows were restored after significant masonry reestablishment due to water damage under the rotted out sills. Broken and missing stained glass windows are in the process of repair and replacement. The process started with new metal frames cast by Mr. Grady. The new frames will hold clear painted replications of the original stained glass, also crafted by Mr. Grady. Regular windows all around the church and manse were also repaired and restored. Roof leaks were accurately identified and repaired. A sagging plaster ceiling has been torn out and restored. All this work was done by Mr. Grady alone or with an occasional helper. He worked with care, expertise and respect for the original structure. The results far exceeded our expectations and have injected new life into a building on the brink. This building, owned by the Presbytery of Philadelphia, now houses a new urban ministry in a newly gentrifying area of the city. We are happy to have had the good fortune to be connected to Gradys Painting and Plastering & Construction by Service Magic."

"Dave , the owner, came quickly and gave me a more than fair estimate after walking the perimeter of my structures. Dave came back a few days later and cleaned the gutters and siding. He was very professional and the only sign that he had been here were the clean gutters and siding and I was charged exactly what I was quoted in the estimate. Will definitely be calling him next year!"

What are the different types of vinyl siding?
There are several types and styles of vinyl siding available for homes. A few of the most popular are clapboard, board and batten, and vinyl shingles. Some less common but unique types include scalloped and log-style. Each type of vinyl siding offers its own distinctive look, and comes with its own cost. Overall, any type of vinyl siding offers high durability with little maintenance.
- Clapboard: Traditional, runs end-to-end across the house, horizontally
- Board and Batten: Runs from top-to-bottom of the house, vertically
- Traditional Lap: Horizontal, similar to clapboard, but planks are narrower at the top than at the bottom, which creates a more defined shadow
- Shingles: Mimic the look of real wood shingles, with a more uniform appearance
- Dutch Lap: Like traditional lap, but the top part of the plank is beveled for a more pronounced effect
- Vinyl Cedar Shake: Mimics the look of real cedar shake shingles, with better durability
- Wood Grain: Textured to mimic the appearance of natural wood, but with less cost and maintenance
- Beaded Seam: Each vinyl plank has a notch or bead that runs along the bottom, runs horizontally
- Traditional Shake: Looks like a wood shake with a flat edge, but has a straight edge along the bottom of each row
- Half-Round (Scalloped): Look like shingles but with rounded bottoms, rows are staggered with each row beneath the other
- Log-Style: Can be horizontal or vertical, looks like real wood-log cabin but without the high price or maintenance
- Smooth: Simple, smooth exterior that clearly shows the vinyl’s texture
How much does siding cost?
+
How much does siding cost?
House siding typically costs between $2 per square foot and $28 per square foot, depending on the siding material you choose. You'll pay less for a material like aluminum, which costs between $2 and $5 per square foot, while brick siding costs between $9 and $28 per square foot. Popular siding materials like engineered wood or vinyl siding costs between $3 and $12 per square foot. Another common siding material, fiber cement, starts at $5 per square foot. Nationally, the typical cost to install siding on an average-sized house is $10,750, with an average range of $5,400 to $16,000 for the material, labor, and site cleanup.
How long does vinyl siding last?
+
How long does vinyl siding last?
Vinyl siding can last anywhere from 20 to 60 years or more, depending on how well you clean and maintain it. With minimal maintenance, your vinyl siding could last on the lower end of the spectrum. But regularly washing and making repairs as-needed will extend your siding’s lifespan. Your particular climate also affects its longevity. For instance, vinyl siding in areas with a lot of blizzards or extremely hot temperatures typically won't last as long as it would in a more mild climate.
Can you paint vinyl siding?
+
Can you paint vinyl siding?
Yes, you can paint vinyl siding—and it often won't fade despite years of exposure to UV rays. You can paint vinyl siding as frequently as every two to five years, but if you live in a region with intense heat, humidity, or storms, you may need to repaint it more frequently.
Can you put siding over brick?
+
Can you put siding over brick?
Yes, it is possible to put siding over brick. However, most siding installation professionals recommend against putting siding over a brick exterior because of the texture of bricks. It’s challenging to properly install new siding over brick because brick isn’t smooth. Most contractors advise removing the original brick siding first before putting new siding on a home. It typically costs between $6 and $30 per square foot to install siding over brick. The price depends on factors like home size, type of new siding material, and whether the bricks need any prep work.
