"We hired John to fix the electrical panel in our boathouse, and then again to upgrade all the lighting there, and then again, to replace the electrical panel in our new house. He came out right away, on time, fixed everything in each case, and was very reasonably priced for the work. He's now our go-to electrician."

"Flow electric was fantastic. I needed an outlet and light put into a storage shed located at the rear of my house and about 4 feet from the electricity pedestal. We discussed everything over text with pictures and was able to provide a quote quickly. They showed up on time and I am extremely happy with the outcome. I will definitely use them again for any of my electrical issues."

"This was the second time we used them. Thank you for your quick response with bid and follow through. I would recommend Wilson River Electric for all electric needs. They came up replaced inside panel, added panel outside for RV and generator plug. I found them to be professional and liked their small town feel."

"Murphy Family Electric is an awesome company with very competent technicians and reasonable rates. They make the whole process pretty straightforward. I had used them to get my Tesla charger in 2018 (Cost: $799 including material). I was so impressed with their work that when I had a complex electrical job - installing a new 120v outlet requiring a new wire from the circuit breaker - I did not get any quotes but just booked them. That job was done very professionally as well (Cost: $949). Fast forward to Mar 2025, my tesla charger had problems with over heating and intermittent power loss. I called Murphy Family Electric and they sent a technician the same day who came and adjusted/cleaned the connections and spent 30 mins fixing the problem. And to my surprise the company did not even charge me anything for this. So on top of everything else you can add absolutely fantastic customer service to their list of attributes."

In some states and municipalities, licensed and registered handypersons can change a light fixture and do minor electrical work. However, you should check with your state and local licensing boards before hiring a local handyperson. In most cases, it’s safer and more practical to hire an electrician for this job. It may cost more, but hiring a licensed electrician means they’ll get the work done to code.
Special light fixtures, known as damp-rated light fixtures, are recommended in bathrooms, particularly if they're near damp areas like showers and over the bathtub. However, in most locations, they’re not a strict requirement. For safety and longevity, damp-rated fixtures are a better choice. If you work with a lighting contractor in your area, they may be able to recommend the right kinds of fixtures for your space.
Yes, it’s possible to run a second light fixture to a switch, meaning the light switch would control more than one light fixture. Several factors can impact whether it’s possible and how much it will cost. In many cases, it may be easier and more affordable for the contractor to install independent light switches. Talk to your electrician about your idea to get their feedback.
