"He was very professional. He did a very good, detailed job. He also did come caulking around my fireplace brick and put up some nice wood trim. UPDATE: paint does not match paint on loft walls as we desired. He insisted on using a different brand paint and it does not match at all. Everyone who visits notices this and asks why the different hues."

"Dave did an excellent job of painting the wood trim around my windows (total of 9). He arrived on time and was very timely in offering an estimate. He also cleaned all of the windows which are very difficult to clean at any time. Clean-up after the job was complete too. I would definitely recommend Barone Professional Painting for any painting job. The cost for the work was also very reasonable."

Customers say: Quality work

"Working with Mike at Affordable Painting & Repairs was overall a great experience. I hired him for two different jobs (drywall and building an enclosure with a new door), he completed each job far sooner than anticipated. He also did something many people in his position wouldn't consider... he lowered the price to more accurately reflect the hours each job took. I was also very impressed with his timeliness, every time he told me he would arrive or call at a given time he did. He also demonstrated a firm grasp of the skills needed for both jobs. Overall, I found him to be honest, ethical, fair, skilled and reasonable. I basically let him be and he got both jobs done sooner and less expensively than originally quoted. I definitely do reccomend his services and will be calling him again for other jobs!!!"

"Martin and his crew removed wallpaper and painted nearly half of our home and we are thrilled with how it turned out! He responded to my inquiry within a day and came out to give a quote within a week. Martin offered us a reasonable and fair price for the amount of work to be done and was spot on with the estimate of how long the job would take. The work was done in 5 days and they were extremely courteous, clean and efficient while here. We highly recommend Painting Pittsburgh and will definitely be using them for future projects!"

FAQs for painting projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Most homeowners opt for semi-gloss or high-gloss paint to make the baseboards stand out against the walls. If you’d rather keep things subtle, matching the wall sheen with eggshell or satin also works well. When your trim has nicks or dents, reach for a flatter, matte finish—it hides minor imperfections better than a shiny coat.

Stripping old paint from trim costs $1 to $3 per linear foot. Pros use specialized tools and techniques to lift away existing layers without gouging the wood, then prep the surface for a fresh finish. While it adds to your budget, proper removal protects the molding and sets the stage for a smoother, longer-lasting paint job.

Tackling the baseboards first often leads to crisper lines. Painting trim first lets you tape off the boards instead of the walls, so you’re less likely to splatter color where you don’t want it. Any stray marks on the wall get covered when you roll on the final coat, making the whole process faster and tidier.

You can absolutely paint baseboards in place. Leaving them installed avoids the risk of cracking or misaligning the boards when they’re reattached. With thorough cleaning, light sanding, and careful taping, a pro—or an experienced DIYer—can achieve a sharp, factory-smooth finish while saving you the hassle of prying off and reinstalling trim.

Painting almost always beats replacement in cost. Swapping out baseboards runs about $150 in DIY materials or roughly $1,100 with a pro, while repainting costs about $50 in supplies and $1 to $5 per square foot for labor. Unless the boards are warped or severely damaged, a fresh coat delivers the same visual upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Paintable caulk and wood filler are the go-to fixes for nail holes in baseboards. Wood filler sands flush for a glass-smooth surface, while caulk provides a flexible seal that won’t crack as the house settles. Either way, patching those tiny divots before you prime ensures your finished baseboards look seamless.
