"Repair asphalt shingle roof and seal around vents and skylights. I actually enjoyed the interactions with every member of this company. The product makes sense (not using tar in the SW sun) and the work was done quickly with no mess left behind and a 5 year warranty. I appreciated the full explanation of the materials and process with no high pressure sales pitch."

"Overall, the re-roofing job done by Roofing USA was a good job; several aspects were done especially well, to my eye. There were also a few things that were not done so well. For background, this was a roof replacement job done on a pitched roof due to hail damage. I should note that the new roof passed the city inspector’s permit inspection with no corrections required. The estimate given us was fair and competitive with the other two estimates received. It was not the lowest, but we selected Roofing USA based on both price and other considerations. One of those was an ad in the Angie’s List magazine that offered a discount of up to $500 for roof replacements. More about that later. One thing I particularly asked each company’s estimator was whether there would be at least one person on the work crew who was fully conversant in English, recognizing that I am not very fluent in any other language and recalling a less-than-effective communication situation I had had with a contractor crew on a previous job. I was assured that there would be. Well, that was not the case. As well as I could determine none of the crew except the crew chief were at all conversant in English, and the crew chief’s English was quite limited. I don’t fault the crew; I wish the assurance I was given had been fulfilled by the company management when the crew was assigned. There were a few cases of somewhat sloppy work. In one case, a few avoidable smudges of black plastic adhesive/sealant appeared on the yellowish stucco of the house walls. The existing flashing on the lower sides of the cooler ducting and the chimney ended up quite bent and sloppily sealed where the shingles were slid under the flashing. And in the most striking case, the person who installed the skylights did not refer to or follow the installation instructions that came with the new units and did not install all of the provided attachment screws, apparently out of frustration with the way his drill-driver tool stripped out the screw heads. There were several positive aspects of the job, though. For example, the crew showed up at the promised time each day and worked past “quitting time” when necessary. Also, the closed-cut valleys were cut dead straight (even without snapping a chalk-line, I believe). The modified-bitumen covering for the low-slope patio roof was installed well and accurately. There were always a sufficient number of nails used on each shingle. On billing, the estimate was exactly adhered to - no mysterious add-ons. And I was especially pleased that the crew supervisor accommodated my concerns in the following situation. On the second planned day of the work, it had rained overnight and was raining lightly in the morning when the crew arrived, intending to continue the job. I expressed concern to the crew supervisor about installing shingles over the wet underlayment. After evaluating the condition of the roof, he concurred, and it was agreed that the crew would continue the next day, after the roof had dried. Going back to the advertised discount – when I went to the contractor’s office to settle the bill, I was told that they were no longer honoring that discount, since Angie’s List had been told to pull the ad a number of months ago but had not. Whatever the facts of the situation, I was generally dissatisfied by this turn of events. The contractor would not adhere to what the ad said, and a phone complaint to Angie’s List elicited a refusal from them to pay the discount amount. Angie’s List and the contractor need to resolve this situation or risk many more dissatisfied customers for both of them."

"Excellent was taken care of in a timely manner. Very professional and they knew what was needed. I have worked with Big Sky Roofing for many years. Very dependable, professional, and honest. If the roof is in good condition, they don’t try to sell you one. They are very good at what they do."

"In short, we’re over the top with our new roof. The longer story is we moved into our home last fall from out of state, and knew when we purchased it that we would need a new roof. No sweat, or so we thought. Towards the end of the year we started calling local companies for estimates. Thanks to hail storms last year, the roofing companies were quoting to have the work complete in 6-9 months, and even scheduling the estimates themselves months out. When the estimates did come in, they were either priced much higher than expected, or were kind of fuzzy on the work they included. I was about to throw my hands up in frustration when I came across Over The Top roofing. The first pleasant surprise is that our call for an estimate was returned within 24 hours. On top of that, Larry, the owner, came out within a reasonable time to give us an estimate. He was very clear on what would be included in the job. The estimate itself was emailed to us within a day of Larry’s visit. We had in writing what work would be performed, and a price that was more than fair. We signed the contract, and within a few weeks Larry’s crew showed up. Our 1800 sq. ft. pitched roofed house with attached garage, built in the 1980s, had two layers of old shingles. Larry’s crew got right to work. They had the old roof off, damaged wood decking replaced, a couple of new whirlybird vents installed, and the new drip edge and roof nailed on in less than two days. During the work his crew kept us well informed about what they were doing. They showed up to work, cleaned up the mess and were very friendly while doing so. A few days after the work was complete, the work passed inspection. Larry stopped by to make sure we were satisfied with the job. I will happily recommend Over The Top roofing to anybody looking for a great roofing job at a fair price."

FAQs for existing skylight repair, replacements or sealing projects in Albuquerque, NM

Yes, skylights can heat your house. Skylights pull in plenty of sunlight, and that solar gain raises indoor temperatures during bright hours. The extra warmth is great in winter, but can feel stuffy in summer. Keep the heat in check with shades, low-E coatings, or reflective films so you enjoy the light without driving up cooling bills.

A newly installed skylight lasts for eight to 15 years when built and maintained well. Regular cleaning, prompt repairs, and removing obstructions such as leaves and debris help keep the unit in optimal condition. Consistent maintenance prevents premature deterioration and keeps the skylight operating safely and efficiently over its lifespan.

Several issues trigger skylight leaks. The unit may not sit flush with the roof, letting water sneak in, or the flashing and weather-stripping could be breaking down. Sometimes it’s just interior condensation that drips when the AC runs hard against humid outdoor air. A quick inspection tells you which fix is needed.

Replacing a skylight takes between three and five hours under straightforward conditions, with professional crews ensuring safe installation. Larger units, custom shapes, very high ceilings, or hard-to-access areas add extra complexity, extending the work time accordingly. Careful planning and expert handling guarantee a secure replacement process even when complications are present.

It is not safe to attempt skylight repair or replacement on your own because the work involves dangerous roof access, handling fragile glass, and managing a heavy frame. Expert professionals provide the necessary skills and safety precautions, ensuring that installations or repairs are performed correctly while preventing injury and additional property damage.
