With years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general contracting, we entered the radon industry when we saw a lack of quality. We design every system specific to your home with quality and longevity in mind. Many competitors have a focus on money and speed, we focus on quality and efficiency.

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"He arrived promptly and spent about 4.5 hours in our home. He performed a detailed inspection and provided us with answers to the questions that we had. He did advise us that we might need a specialist in one area of our home and did not give us definite answers on anything that he was not an expert in. Most of the issues with the home we were already aware of but Dave did answer our questions and mapped out some areas for improvement that we can work on when the weather gets a little nicer. I would feel confident recommending his services to anyone that I know. I also believe the price was fair considering our home is very large with around 2,500 square feet finished as well as a large basement that is unfinished and this included the radon test.  When he was finished he emailed the report to us within a couple days and then he mailed us a copy of the radon report as well as some information on maintenance times for certain things in our home. Overall we are very satisfied with the service we received."

"Doug went above and beyond to clear up our radon gas issue. He and his team did an excellent job in the crawl space, and installing the pipes outside. He is very professional, but also very kind and caring! We highly recommend him."

"Steve was great! This was our first home purchase and Steve was recommended by our realtor and friends. He was not alone on the inspection he also had his son and a person he was training accompany him.  He took the time to go through the house and explain to me what he was putting into his report.  He also had lots of handy tips if something did need fixed (like the gas valve that should be fixed when we eventually replace the hot water heater). <br /> The fact that Steve's entire report is electronic is very nice as well.  It gave my husband piece of mind that even though he couldn't be there for the inspection that he could read the report right when he got home from work. <br /> Thanks Steve! <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Alto, MI

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
