"The job was fairly straightforward and I had already procured the sink and most of the additional supplies but the job required some replumbing of both the water supply and drain. The master plumber worked efficiently and professionally and the job was completed in a few hours. The cost was determined from a standard table in a notebook but does not take into account the complexity of the job or whether materials are supplied by owner. Since I supplied most of the materials (plumber supplied valves and pipe and drain fittings) the price seemed rather high for around 3 hours work. However, I've had no professional plumbing work done recently and thus have nothing to compare it to. The plumber was very pleasant and professional and the work of high quality. I have no other complaints."

"When our existing water tank started to falter we knew we needed to upgrade. Derry Plumbing and Heating installed a phenomenal tankless system for our 3800+ sq foot home and we never had a reason to complain. Our energy costs went down and we always had hot water for our family of 5 and numerous guests."

"We used Mike twice in the past three years. First visit was for leaking pipes in the basement and for a bath faucet that wouldn't shut off. He replaced the inbound water link with PEX for about 10 feet. He also replaced the internal mechanism in the shower. Both were done within a few hours. Mike agreed to meet on my schedule which was in the early evening to assess the situation. He's punctual, professional and tells you what you need/don't need with a repair. The second call was for an emergency leak in t ceiling. He cut out a small section, located and repaired the leak. The work is top notch and he make sure everything is cleaned up nicely. He also answered all questions I had and gave advice about watch to watch for since it's a 40 year old house and the copper may be thinner and lower quality. We'll definitely use him again and have already recommended him to other family members and friends. You will not be disappointed if you hire Mike. <br />"

"Paul answered his phone when I called, which was more than I can say for other plumbers. He came over when he said he would, quickly assessed the problem with the faucet, gave me options and recommendations. He then quickly resealed the toilet. He was nice, knowledgeable, prompt, quick and I think reasonable priced. I have no frame of reference. I would definitely call Paul again. <br />"

Dean Hardy Plumbing & Heating

"Hardy is the best for Quality and Price in the Nashua/Derry Area. I used him for a small job years ago and he is the same quality with good prices in comparison to others that over charge. The only thing is you need to be a touch patient as he is a one to two man operation so don't expect miracles. If you need someone yesterday then call hertiage they will come to your house that day and charge you $3,000-$4,500 to do a gas 41 gallon tank. Hardy was in the $2,000 $2,500 range and will do allot more personal touches. A friend of mine who is a master HVAC agrees as well. Hardy does solid work and is a good price. Our situation was the water Tank started leaking, which we did not know at first. So we called the office early AM left a message received a call back around 12noon. He came inspected the issue and diagnosed the problem that afternoon. Other companies wanted diagnostic fee or did not return call until later in day or no return call at all. I wanted to get estimates to make sure I was getting a fair price so I called around a bit. Hardy was extremely reasonably priced and was the only plumber who came out to the house the day. it was a tough diagnostic at first as water was all over cabinets and the floor. He figured out that the tank had burst open and squirted/steamed allot of water. The thing with Hardy is it's a professional mom and pop operation with all the benefits. He takes the time to dot the i's and cross the t's while not over charging you. For example, The tank was put in a bad location from the previous home owners plumber(who is no longer in business) and Hardy took the time to re route all the piping so that in the future people could get at the unit without having to kill themselves to turn a wrench so to speak. He also made sure to write the serial number on the unit that was not visible. It's the little details. He laid down card board where he was walking in and out of the house to keep things clean. When he left out side of everything being fixed it was like he was not there. No clean up. He ran into issues and made things work as well, such as the fact that the old tank had no drain hooked up. He dealt with all of this stayed late to get it done and even finished a small valve job we really hoped he would do but did not demand. No one is perfect, but if you need a quality job, from a person that cares and will give you a very reasonable price Dean Hardy plumbing is worth it."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Amherst, NH

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
