"Sean Prouty was amazing. He had to build doors that fit a 1900 built home with slanted door jams. They came out amazing."

"
Jeremy, the owner, thoughtfully oversees his crew who has been with him a long time. They carefully prepped, caulked, repaired drywall damage, painted millwork and doors, removed wallpaper, reapplied orange peel where necessary, painted walls and ceilings, retouched, and thoroughly cleaned-up. The work was done over a three week period, and every day they cleaned up so well that our house was completely livable. They did everything to perfection, including refinishing some cherry cabinetry, and all while being friendly and professional. A special shout out to Jose on the crew who is an artist at applying orange peel and doing detail work; he paints with the care of someone painting his own home. I am using them again in a few weeks after some wood flooring is installed, and will use them again for any other future work. Thanks!
"

"I will begin from the beginning, After making initial contact with the company Rick and Cindi came out to meet us and check out the scope of our work. We started with just doing a couple bathrooms and our bedroom for a remodel. After being paired with Cindi through Adaptations Studio. I will say that everything went rather smoothly and we were able to grasp what we were getting ourselves into. I think the only negative that I could pull from the entire design aspect is perhaps Cindi was a little too cautious with her choices for helping with our finishes. I don't mean any disrespect but I felt that sometimes we were pushed more into her comfort zone than having someone really get creative or think out of the box and push the design side of things. Again this is nothing against adaptations I just feel we are probably on the younger side of most of their clients and was looking for a little s**** in Bellingham. After what seemed like months of drawing and redrawing and picking finishes we were ready to get into the goods.
It was at this point we were handed over to A-1. Mike Gill would be our man on this and I could not write enough good stuff about this man. If you are going to spend six months with strangers in your house this is the guy you want. He is also one h*** of a carpenter. To try and save a little coin I decided I would do demo, and final paint.
I think you can really judge a company by their subs and every single person that walked through our front door was amazing. From electrical, plumbing, tile, wood, everyone was top notch and to be honest it was at this time that we really felt we had made the right decision. Throughout the entire process everything was explained to us. We even added a few changes like remodel of fireplace and stairwell. These changes were not small and were met with smiles and go get em attitudes. In the end, we felt like we got what we paid for. Is A-1 the cheapest company? Of course not. But with their higher prices comes a first rate crew and the best subs in the area. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to make their house a home. Everyone was great to work with and I am sure if I am in need of some more changes within my house I would not hesitate to call up A-1 and have them make my dreams a reality.

"

"Very well. The new frame around the door is properly sealed, and the new door opens more easily than the old one."

"In moving to Bellingham in August of 2010, we purchased a condominium that had a problem with water leaking into the crawlspace. Even though the HOA periodically pumped the water out, we wanted a more efficient and permanent solution. The building inspector for our home personally recommended Mark and 'The Carpenter's Brother' as a company that does all types of home repair, including sump and crawlspace work. We met with Mark and he quickly assessed the problem and laid out a simple sump and drainage system that would keep the crawlspace dry, protecting the wood superstructure of the building from eventual mold and rot. Mark and his son quickly did the trenching for drainage and added drain tile and rock. They then installed the sump system and replaced the vapor barrier that had been pushed out of the way by the people that had been doing the periodic pumping. The crawlspace is now clean and dry and the pump is working perfectly so far. Mark and his son were a pleasure to work with and were always easily accessible, on time, and very professional. They impressed us as being good honest people doing high quality work at a fair price. The Carpenter's Brother offers a wide range home repair services and we would recommend them to anyone."

"
The work went fairly well. He did not seem to know that the front door had weather stripping and that should be removed before the door was painted. He did not ask me to stay home when the three doors were to be painted. He sprayed them when I had gone out and the when I returned home that day he had the edges painted with a brush. He asked me to keep the doors open to dry for two hours which I did. Next morning all three doors were "stuck" and when forcibly opened the the edges of the doors and the door jams were bad:-areas where they had stuck the paint had come off..He painted them a second time-but even after several hours of

keeping them open the front door stuck again the next morning. This was the day after he said the work was "finished"-At that point he gave me an invoice-and insisted that I write a check "right now". He had promised a 5% discount before I signed the contract which included the provision that he would clean up after the job was complete and all garbage was removed. The windows were still streaked with the stain when the house was first washed and all was not put back where they should have been.

He said he would charge a fee of 3% if I wanted to use a credit card. I did not have that much money in my checking account and needed a day to make sure my personal check did not bounce. But he had one of his workers stand out side my door waiting for the check. I was intimidated and so I wrote a check from my Vanguard's investment account. Two days later I received an e mail from Vanguard-to call them-which I did and learnt that I had use an old check book-so they would not honor the check-I called Cesar immediately. I had also asked a handyman over the weekend about the weather stripping in the front door. This handy man does a lot of painting jobs too and he said that the weather stripping should be always removed before a door is painted.I asked him to remove it and he said that he would return and replace it after the painter cleans up, primes the bare wood areas and repaints. That I should wait several days before the weather stripping is replaced. Of course I would now have to pay the handyman.

I called Cesar and told him about the check and about the weather stripping and that the front door had stuck again and what the handyman had said and done. He sent one of his crew to look at the door-and when the crew member arrived he immediately went on the offensive-"once you let someone touch our job we are no longer responsible" etc. etc. I insisted he call Cesar which he did -I called him too and he said he will come in twenty minutes. I realized that he thought here is an old lady living alone and not able to walk much( I have chronic plantar fasciitis in both feet and cannot walk much. So I called a younger man who is a friend and he came over from his work- that worked!. This friend has six motels that he runs and has a lot of people doing various jobs on these motels so he was able to convince Cesar that the weather
stripping should always be removed before painting a door. This was yesterday .He did ask his worker to clean the windows and replace a table and a ramp back on the patio He refused to accept the new check I had already written from the new checkbook. This morning he came and picked it up and said he would deposit it if his bank tells him that the original check had not been honored. Then we shook hands and he left.
"

"We noticed the leak on the morning of President's day, of course on a holiday. Immediately went on Angie's list and called the best reviewed contractors. Rainshield responded first, Debbie answered the phone, and within 2 hours had 2 pros out to our house (Jasper and Chad, not sure if names are spelled correctly). They investigated very thoroughly, went into the attic (i had ladders ready and the access cleared for them) and on the roof of course, concluded the leak originated from around the skylights. Fixed the leak temporarily and submitted estimate a day later as promised (Rick). We set up a day for the repair and the same pros showed up, on time, worked a full day and did an awesome job. I went on the roof a few times and they demonstrated in detail what they had done, included some extras that were not on the bid, thank you.
Clean up was immaculate (i usually prepare for some time after contractors leave to clean up myself, but not necessary with this company).
I then called to pay the bill in full over the phone to uphold my end of the bargain and it was all done.
I would recommend Rainshield to anybody who wants quality work done.

"
