"We had our kitchen renovated. It was our first time, and didnâ t realize the contractor could also get cabinetry and other stuff. ( I thought they only specialized around the installation aspect). We had gone with a (friend recommended) kitchen design company who told us after we had measures and placed orders, that we were too far for them to use their installers and we needed to find our own contractor. I found Fowler construction on Angie. The design company was responsible for many delays, damaged material, and mistakes and Fowler Construction was able to work around the delays and basically fix the design companyâ s ineptitude. We will definitely be calling them again for our next renovation."

"John, Ken and their crew did a fantastic job. We needed to have our second floor bath redone when the stack in our 100 yr old home failed. KAS was able to take care of all the plumbing including replacing the stack down to the basement. They were able to work with me on my design ideas for a vintage mosaic tiled bathroom and the quality of work was impeccable. They were always polite and professional and did a good job of keeping the house clean and working with me around my WFH schedule. I would absolutely hire them again. Job came in on time and within budget."

"Doug Fox and his Wolverine team are the best! They created two gorgeous bathrooms in our home. Doug gave us a fair timeline and a budget, and came in perfectly on both. He is thorough, extremely knowledgeable, and always on top of things. John and Tim were amazing at their work, always kind and ready to answer questions and offer suggestions when asked. Thank goodness they steered us to great paint choices, even though they would have honored whatever we asked for. Errick is a fantastic painter! What we really wish is that we could just have the whole house remodeled and upgraded now, with Wolverine doing all of it! After we save up for a kitchen remodel, we will be in touch with Wolverine to set up the job months ahead. Can't wait to work with Doug and his team again!"

"We had been looking at doing this project for some time. We had a full basement remodel and a bathroom installed on the 1st floor. So many of our friends had told us horror stories about contractors and remodeling and that we should plan on things taking a long time and costing extra. Clearly our friends didn't deal with these guys. This was one of the smoothest business dealings we've ever done. They set a time period of 3 weeks and they were out of the house in 2 and a half. Everything was done correctly and up to code. This was all completed while the shadow of the coronovirus loomed over, and they never used it as an excuse. The final cost came in a few bucks less than what they quoted, which was the icing on the cake. You can do no better than this father and son team. Even if you don't know what is suppose to happen, if you have a vision they will make sure it comes to fruition."

"We had a great experience with JFC from start to finish! Jason spent quite a bit of time with us during the planning process, even before we commited to hiring his crew. He had great suggestions about the design of our kitchen and bathroom, and he directed us to several suppliers. His crew and subcontractors were top-notch. Not only did they do great work, but they were good to our pets and we trusted them in our home. The work was finished within the projected time frame, and we couldn't be happier with the finished product! <br />"

"New roof was finished May 28, 2014. They tore off and installed the roof in 1 day. The workers were very professional. They removed all material and cleaned up the entire work area. No nails or debri left on the property. I liked their process of removing the back portion of the roof first and then installing the shingles on the back of the house before completely tearing off the front of the house. This process proofed to be the best because in the afternoon it started raining and lasted for approximately 3 hours. There were no issues with the back of the house because it was finished. However, water leaked into my home in the front, even though the roof was covered with tarps. The rain damaged the front entry way of the interior of the house. DA Home Improvement handled this problem immediately by repairing the drywall and painting the area. I was happy with the final outcome of both the roof and interior job. DA Home Improvement also installed a prefab three season aluminum patio room with a poly roof system to an existing deck, attached to the back of my home. Also they installed 4 inch thick, 15x11 concrete pad (patio area) to the back of the home. Again they were very professional and the work was completed to my satisfaction. All building material was removed and I have no complaints with any people that worked on this project. This was a longer process. Our first meeting was April 18, 2014. The room was not finished until October to my disappointment because I looked forward to using the patio and room for our family events during the summer of 2014. There was a lot of red tape getting the city of Livonia to issue permits. However, DAHome Improvement and their work staff and engineers worked with the city and finally got the job approved and finished. I am sitting on the porch on this beautiful spring day in 2015 enjoying my porch and wanted to share this experience with Angies List. The salesman Jim Ledbetter and office staff, Linda, Monica and Amanda are awesome. <br />"

"Updating rental property. This is my go to company, to have anything done. Painting, carpentry work, remodeling, electrical and even handyman work etc. Great with communication, professionalism and with the changes that were made midstream, he never missed a beat."

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Ann Arbor, MI

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
