"Several months ago, I noticed that doors in my house were no longer closing and latching. Specifically, my front door no longer locked completely. Once I got it fully locked I could no longer open my front door anymore, so I knew I had foundation issues. I called Bay Area Underpinning to come look at my foundation and do some measurements. We discovered that my front living room was sinking approximately one and a half to 2 inches. The crew, Lance Sladek, Jake Hall, and Eddie Shaw, crawled under my house and dug 30 to 40 foot holes in the ground to install piers that would lift my foundation. These gentlemen worked in very cramped dirty conditions in 90-100° weather. I was extremely happy with their work and their dedication to doing the job correctly. My after the foundation lift, my front door as well as several other doors in my home were able to close and latch again."

"Project kickoff began with an evaluation and a quote from a Ned Clyde engineer. After accepting the offer, we waited for 3 months to begin work due to high demand for their services. Project work spanned about four weeks, with some downtime due to weather. Aside from the main work of returning the floor and walls to original positions, the french drain along the foundation was remade with modern material. This work required a permit from the city of Martinez that required adding an earthquake shutoff valve for the natural gas service and a check for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors matching current codes. The cost of these upgrades were outside of the feeds paid to Ned Clyde, but they are sensible requirements that would have been done eventually anyway. Overall, the Ned Clyde folks are experts who did exactly what they promised with no required feedback. Costs were in line with other quotes, but I got the sense that I got a great bargain in value provided."

"<p>It was excellent. I have already referred them to a neighbor who is having a huge garage done. I  looked at, I'll bet, six companies. I have a redwood expansion joint and they were the only ones who could take  that out. They have a special epoxy they used in the hole to fill the expansion joint. Then they came out and finished the permanent epoxy. Their pricing is good and their responsiveness was fantastic. The lead installer has put in about 500 of these and he had an assistant with him that was training. These people were above board and call you back. They are polite and are ladies and gentlemen. They have a good product. His truck was immaculate. Everything was neat and he had a place for everything. </p>"

"25 years at this house and in wet winters we would have a damp smell coming up from the crawlspace. Rats were out of control too. We had sump pumps all around the house. Always cleaning or replacing or re-setting GFI outlets. I did it all myself. Finally I called his company to replace some sump pumps. Estimator came out and said they don't do that. They encapsulate the crawlspace. I said what about the pumps? He said it won't matter any more. I went for it. <br /> They just left and couldn't wait to get underneath and look. I am very pleased with the workmanship. If you look at the photos (hey angie can I post photos?), they fastened this 20mil reinforced plastic sheeting to the sides of the foundation using rivets. Not a bit of dirt or debris to be seen. The crew was very professional. Very polite, lots of drop clothes to protect the floors. Their workmanship was very good. If they were my crew, I would be very pleased. <br /> Just a word of caution - not a deal breaker but...the first day required a lot of dirt work. Invariably the house became dusty. I would have put painters tarp over couches and other soft surfaces. Second, don't be surprised to have some smell of epoxy - the material they use to glue the sheets together. It goes away in a day. It's part of the install which makes me happy they use it. So far I'm very happy with the job. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They were very accommodating. It was something that had rusted and they were very accommodating on helping me to resolve that problem. There was a cost. It was a very minor problem."

"While I didn't actually end up going with Mulhall because of them having a slightly higher bid, they were very professional and easy to deal with for the estimate.  If I had a smaller job I think I would have ended up using them. <br />"

"<p> Paul Samuels is your guy.</p> <p> It was time to replace the claw foot tub in our very tiny, only bathroom. The tub seemed like a good idea 15 years ago when we remodeled our 100 year old farmhouse, but not anymore. </p> <p> Paul Samuels came to our house 5 times before we had even decided to contract with him. He brought samples of materials, lists of references and potential suppliers, asked and answered questions. We all had a clear idea of what was desired and expected before the project even began. We never felt as if he was pushing, just that he wanted us to know all the possibilities. His estimate was fair and reasonable. </p> <p> Throughout the remodel, Paul was there to inspect, oversee and assure everything was done completely and done right. He encouraged and cajoled subcontractors to deliver and meet deadlines. More than once we were told by a subcontractor that the installation would be done “a week from Friday” only to have them come back after talking with Paul to do the install “day after tomorrow”. </p> <p> The Samuels Construction crew (Victor and Manuel?) was great. Skilled and efficient, leaving the job site neat and clean every day. It was a pleasure having them work in and around our home. </p> <p> The project was completed before expected and we are so pleased. Best shower ever!</p> <p> As time went on, Paul pointed out some improvements that could be done for stability of the house. Again, price was reasonable, we never felt as if it was a sales pitch, simply advice from a guy who knows (because we knew his suggestions were spot on). That extra work was done along with the shower remodel.</p> <p> No matter the size or complexity of your project, we highly suggest you give Samuels Construction a call. From a shower remodel, concrete, additions, foundation issues here is someone who can do the job for you and do it well.</p> <p> We feel as if we have found someone who can do any job for us, no more searching. We’ll contact Samuels Construction to handle those many items on our ‘to-do’ list in the future.</p> <br />"

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Antioch, CA

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
