"Hired Pavel to build a deck. Spent two hours going over what I wanted, including no ledger to the house because it's brick veneer (violates IRC R507.9.1.1). He agreed to everything. Day one, he screwed a ledger into the brick. I let him continue with footings. They were poured 8 to 10 inches deep. SC code requires 12 inches minimum (IRC R403.1.4). About half the ledger lumber was untreated interior wood, not pressure treated (violates IRC R507.2). The bolts came out with a basic socket set. One section of ledger ripped off the house by hand. He also cut through a 5 inch root on an oak tree 13 feet away while digging a footing. He did demo my old deck, but threw all debris onto my freshly seeded lawn without warning. Had to remove his work myself and hire a certified builder to start over. Out about $2,500 for nothing usable."

Im having him come back to build a roof on the top of deck and other things because they do some many things.
