"The inspector was very friendly. We actually talked a lot while the inspection was going on. During the inspection, some stains were noticed on the bedroom ceiling. When the inspector went up into the attic no water issues were seen so we figured the leak was from a prior issue. Fast forward about a month later and those stains are now a water leak. The leak is coming from the vent pipe on the roof. When the inspector went into the attic he looked in the wrong place. The water stains were within a foot of the vent pipe. He was looking on the opposite side of the attic. Had he looked in the correct place he would've noticed the stains were near the vent pipe. I then would have asked the seller to repair or replace the vent pipe collar prior to purchasing the house. Now, I have to pay for the repair myself and fix the wet ceiling. This was a big miss by the inspector."

"Our inspector, Tom, was incredible. He arrived early and had already examined the perimeter of the house by the time I got there. Yet, he still took the time to walk me through it again and pointed out everything that he saw. When he was done with his inspection ( at least 2 hours), he walked us through each and every room again not only pointing out potential problems, but giving us helpful recommendations on maintaining the home. Tom was nice, extremely knowledgeable and professional. I would definitely work with him again. <br />"

"Excellent. This was the final step of a 40,000 renovation on a rental property that I purchased. He was very responsive to my time deadlines, and even discovered some safety issues with the structure while removing the siding and cladding. I will be eternally grateful that he discovered the rot on the structural support members, as if they had failed they would have been incredibly dangerous or fatal to the tenants. He was willing to work around the other contractors that I had hired, and when one of them turned out to be incredibly unreliable he was able to supply a member of his own team to help out and make sure that I was still able to hit my target move in dates for my tenants. He then took on the interior lead paint encapsulation and interior painting. I included some pictures of this work both during and completed. This was a complicated renovation involving many different contractors and moving pieces, with a hard deadline move in date for tenants. Without John and his company, I would not have hit my deadlines on this project. The tenants and I all loved the work he did on the place."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Ashford, CT

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
