Founded in 1982 by John DiPonzio, Design Wood Floors continues to find ways to please our ever expanding customer base. The attention to detail was impressive, and they even tackled things we didn't expect, like attaching some of our molding that had come unglued (in the past) back to our walls. "The project went as scheduled and at the quoted price. This work included the removal of existing carpeting and the installation of oak hardwood floors in six rooms (approximately 1,600 square feet). My prerequisites were for the installation to include mahogany border / inlay wood in a great room to match the existing border in the dining room, and the undercutting of the baseboard versus the quarter round used by many other companies. This inlay included a double interlocking square pattern in the middle of the room. The design and installation came out beautiful. The four bedrooms upstairs were completed over two different periods allowing for us to clear out two rooms at a time and letting the three coats of polyurethane to properly cure. The upstairs had an existing hardwood flooring in the hallway, which Cliff’s team cut back to weave in the new flooring and then refinish. This came out seamlessly and to look at the finished product would leave you to believe it had been all installed at the same time. Cliff’s pricing is very competitive, he and his team showed up on time for both segments of the project and the quality of the work is outstanding. I would definitely recommend Superior Hardwood Flooring for any new, replacement or refinish work."

Wood flooring refinishes FAQs
Plan on refinishing your floors every seven to 10 years to keep them looking their best. If you spot heavy scratches, sun-faded boards, water stains, or a thinning finish in high-traffic areas, consider moving up the timeline. A quick check each season lets you catch trouble early and protect the wood for the long haul.
You can skip full sanding only if the finish is still in great shape. In that case, your hardwood flooring pro can lightly buff the surface and apply a fresh topcoat. You can maintain regular sweeping and vacuuming to keep grit at bay. But if you see wax buildup, dents, or deep scratches, sanding is a must. Otherwise, the new coat will highlight every flaw.
Sweep or dust-mop every few days, then follow up with a slightly damp microfiber mop and a cleaner specifically designed for wood floors—avoid anything harsh that can strip the finish. For stubborn marks, rub lightly with fine steel wool and a bit of mineral spirits, then buff with wax. Adding blinds or curtains also shields boards from sun-fade and keeps the color even.
