"<p>First let me start with the fact that the work required to do the job ended up over the estimate, and they never haggled or complained about it. They just asked for what was estimated. They used quality materials and everything looked and worked great after the job was done. I have had no electrical problems in the house since they did the work. The fact they handled the permits, scheduling with the electric company and the awful government electrical inspector for our area was a huge relief.<br /> <strong>The Estimate and Work </strong>We have a lot of electrical equipment. The subpanel where most of our important circuits were was hissing and vibrating and making a buzzing sound. Circuits were blowing all the time. After Wayne, the owner, patiently listened to my ideas for what I wanted to have done to fix the problem, he offered a solution that actually would fix my problem lol. Wayne was energetic, VERY knowledgeable and pleasant to talk too. His employee's have impeccable manners and work ethic.<br /> The job required us to be ready to be without power for half the day. Everything went fine. If they had a problem they just worked through it . Our house had a lot of honeydos in the electrical wiring, so they kept running into problems getting it done correctly.</p> <strong>Nitpicks and Complaints </strong>The large, thick cable between the meter and the main panel was changed. It came out the bottom of the meter before, and the new work had it coming out of the side. The old cable was left in place, sticking out of the aluminum siding by around 2-3 inches. This should have had white outdoor caulk around it. It did not, I had to buy some and caulk it up myself to prevent pests from entering the garage. UPDATE 24JUL12 : Larry's Electric was doing more work on our home as a subcontractor to an HVAC install that involved an exterior power line being run from the main panel to the compressor when they saw this part of their old work. They removed the old power line that was left in place and weather proofed it with a sanded exterior finish. They got that done before I could mention it to them before they left. <br /> <strong>Miscellaneous </strong>I had a previous job done by Larry's Electric to fish and install a circuit for a new dishwasher. While there I asked their opinion about a wiring fault error indicator from a line conditioner/battery backup in the basement outlets. I was asking for another estimate. They climbed up on the desks and fixed the two outlets for free on the way out. <br /> When our larger electrical problem started and I called, someone came out and worked on the panel wiring, tightening the connections inside. I was planning on paying for the visit but the guy was in and out in 10 minutes and did not accept payment for the work. I think these two actions speak about the morals and quality of Larry's Electric in a positive way. <br /> The only ugly problem from start to finish was the government electrical inspector. He is the last step of the work, it appears. He was hours late, parked sidways in the driveway with his radio going, and rang our doorbell while having a conversation on his cell. I open the door and here is someone with the manners of a rapper talking on his phone with his back to me. I closed the door while he was acting out. The 'inspection' seemed to involve one sticker on the meter and him pointing out other stuff around the main panel which he was threatening to fail on the inspection. I think it was because I closed the door while he was on his phone. If you get work done, expect something like this from the county representitive."

"<p>Somehow my laptop corrupted the operating system and would not even boot up. Alexander Technical Resources (Spencer) came to my house to try to repair my computer. We decided that my computer needed to go to their repair facility for some serious work. They were able to save all my data, ran thorough diagnostics and repaired my computer. It was such a relief that I did not loose and data.</p> <p>This is the second time I have used them. The first was to set up this very laptop and transfer all the data from my old PC.</p> <p>I would recommend Alexander Technical Resources and will use them for any other computer repairs. </p> <p><br /></p> <br /> <br /> <br />"

"The person performing the service had to make several trips because one of the "new" parts turned out to be faulty. I found both Complete Protection and their local repair contractor to be both very responsive and totally professional at every stage of the repair process."

"Miller Building Company is the most professional remodeling company I have had the pleasure to work with.  I hired Miller Building Company to finish a bathroom update and I had initially hired a 'handyman' to do.  I let the handyman go when the quality of work left much to be desired.  Miller Building Company is very detail oriented and worked with me to finish the job to my satisfaction.  Miller Building was always on time and kept me informed throughout the job.  They take the extra steps needed to get the job done, get it done right, on time and on budget.  They were respectful of my home and took extra care to minimize disruption caused by construction.  Each person I interacted with from Miller Building was polite and professional. <br />"

"I sent my phone in for the free diagnosis and estimate with a pre-approved dollar amount (for repair) of 75.00.  <br /> I received an email when they received my phone. The email communications were excellent as they sent emails during each and every step and/or issue throughout the whole process. <br /> They needed the password to unlock my phone so thjat they could perform certain diagnostics. I was a little uneasy about this, but felt assured by the professionalism, so I continued forward with the repair. <br /> I received an email that there was an issue and I called. Long story short...The port was replaced and the phone was not powering up because the port replacement was unsuccessful. They tried replacing the port a couple more times and still it wasn't working. <br /> The price to continue further was way too expensive for me so, after speaking with the tech, Lucas (very, very professional and understanding and accommodating!!!) the decision was made to refund my pre-payment and mail my phone back to me. <br /> Lucas, the technician, went so far as to consult with his manager to confirm an idea that I had about circumventing the problem by just using a wireless charger, rendering the phone more useful than just a paperweight. <br /> I'm extremely pleased with the fact that they communicated thoroughly throughout the entire process, when the fix was unsuccessful, they refunded my money (I'm not sure if that was a courtesy thing or if it was their policy). <br /> I would highly, highly recommend these folks for any cell phone repairs! :-) <br />"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Au Gres, MI

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
