"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"<ul> <li>I used Angie's List and other internet resources to narrow down my list of vendors to Wilson Roofing (#1 on my list) and two others. I then used each vendor's web site to request an inspection of my roof for wind and hail damage and an estimate for replacement of my 19 year old 3-tab shingle roof. Hill Adams from Wilson Roofing called about two hours later and came to my house that afternoon, inspected the roof, verified that there was hail and wind damage, and recommended that I contact my insurance company (State Farm.) Hill said he would send me a written estimate and contract proposal by the following day (which he did.) I was contacted by a second company on my list within one day. A company rep came and inspected my roof and also found hail and wind damage. He gave me a verbal estimate of the cost to replace the roof. The third company did not contact me until after Wilson Roofing had replaced the roof. I contacted my State Farm agent (Ken Crone), an adjustor came out, inspected the roof and verified hail and wind damage to the roof and several window screens. He prepared an estimate and gave me an initial check for replacement of the roof. We signed a contract with Wilson Roofing including an upgrade from the 3-tab shingles to the dimensional shingle. The Wilson Roofing crew came on September 23 at about 8:00 am and finished the job by that afternoon. Ian Brooks was the Field Manager who was there that morning and also came by after the install. An inspector also came out after the install to check the roof from above and in the attic, and he also checked for nails in the yard. Wilson Roofing did an excellent job from initial contact, the reroof, and follow through afterward. I chose Wilson Roofing not just to do this one roof replacement but to be there for any future repairs or replacements, and I am confident that they will be there for me.</li> </ul> <br />"

"Ralph Bonnell worked diligently during the inspection. The moisture meters were useful, but required a lot of sampling to get a general idea of the water activity. Ralph was able to determine the amount of water in the wall and the approximate source of the leak. His search for leaks throughout the rest of the house was negative. The moisture meters are much more effective on a known problem than a random search."

"After a hail storm my insurance company determined that the entire roof, gutters and some window screens needed to be replaced. I was dreading the process but, luckily, I found Driftwood Builders Roofing. This is a company that you can trust. Todd answered all my numerous questions and explained the process to me. The staff showed up when expected. They were careful and thorough, removing all the old shingles and all the layers of felt and replacing all damaged wood. They are GAF Master Elite installers, working quickly but with a great attention to detail. We had skylights, gutters and window screens to replace and all of these installations were done promptly and well. After completion of the roof, they cleaned up my entire yard, which was quite a large task. The price was great and the new roof looks beautiful! I will hire them again when I need roof work."

"Larry Reed did an impeccable job.  He gave great attention to detail both during the inspection, and afterward in the document he provided.  He had pictures of everything.  He handled a sticky situation (the 'difficult' seller was present during the inspection) with ease and professionalism.  We'd hire him again in a heartbeat.  <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Austin, TX

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
