"Siding and Windows Group replaced my 30 year old aluminum siding with insulated vinyl siding, plus, all windows were replaced. The siding looks great, though not the color I expected from a tiny swatch :-). Workmanship is excellent. The siding looks so different from my old siding - so much better. The details are amazing with outlet covers, vent covers, and even light fixture backings that match the siding. This company offers numerous window options from known manufacturers (Pella, Marvin, Andersen, etc...) and they take their time to ensure you get what you want. I can't tell you how many times Angelo came to my home to show me windows. I am extremely pleased with the work and I get compliments all the time."

"Howard showed up at appointed time and looked over the widows I wanted replaced and told me about his windows and showed some samples of the quality. His prices were very good and he sent his instaler out that week to get accurate measure of the windows to be replaced. I had the new windows installed within 2 weeks in time to get the federal tax credidt. The windows look great and really make a difference in my heat bill."

"A Breath of Fresh Air! Today homeowners must be very careful when choosing a contractor. For most of us, we are taking a gamble every time we hire someone to work on our homes. This feeling is justified when we hear about friends and neighbors who had bad experiences with contractors and referrals that do not always work out. However, I want you to know that Real Exteriors is a sure bet! From the time I contacted Real Exteriors to the end of my project, I was more than impressed with their professionalism. Joe, the general contractor who worked on my house was more than accommodating and most importantly, he was honest! Before contacting Real Exteriors, I interviewed two other contractors. I wanted to install trim around my two large windows in the front of the house and two smaller windows on both sides. Both contractors gave me a lower price and told me that everything would look fine without removing my 20-year-old siding. I wanted to give my home some “curb appeal” by installing the trim. However, when I interviewed Joe from Real Exteriors, he begged to differ with the other two contractors. Instead, he strongly stated that the trim could not be properly installed without removing the old siding, which was improperly installed over 20 years ago. Not only was it improperly installed, it was dirty and faded. Joe explained the issue of the improper installation in detail. After which, he guaranteed that it would be properly installed this time. Because of his honesty, I hired him. The house is now beautiful! I am so glad I listened to him and glad I invested the extra money because the existing siding had lived out its’ usefulness and was improperly installed. My husband and I were so impressed with the new siding and trim that we asked Joe to replace our gutters as well, also very old, dirty and faded. Now the house has a brand new face, and the curb appeal I was seeking is definitely there! Being honest with us about how to proceed with our project was paramount! Joe listened to me when we met as I explained my vision for my house. After the job was completed, the house looked exactly as I had imagined it! Joe really helped me to understand that spending the extra money would be much more beneficial to the look of my home rather than bypassing necessary work with substandard results. Joe said to me, “I want to do this right!” I highly recommend using Real Exteriors for any exterior project you may have. Not only are they extremely professional; arriving on time, respecting the boundaries of your property and your neighbors, living up to timelines from start to finish and delivering a finished project that meets or exceeds your expectations, they are also very friendly and honest people! Therefore, at a time when homeowners are concerned and unsure about who to hire to work on their home, I suggest you hire Real Exteriors and get an assuring Breath of Fresh Air! "I will try to keep this short. I have waited weeks till I had time to completely digest the events. I am retired, skilled and experienced in the trades plus I have many decades as a skilled and US Gov. licensed technician and inspector. The ONLY thing that kept this from being a D were the two guys nailing down the shingles. I watched them like an FAA inspector. They aligned each shingle before nailing it x5. The "roof" looks good but not my driveway. I was up on the roof the entire time with the "good crew." I saw ALL their flaws and was shocked. I wish I could post the photos I took. My drive was now has approximately 30 feet of grooves cut into it by the carpenter of this crew. He was cutting plywood for repairs and just laid the wood flat on my drive way and cut away with his skill saw. Well the skill saw went through the wood right into my drive way. I showed the Project Manager and he said "well when you reseal the drive way it will cover up the all the cuts." This same designated crew carpenter cut plywood repairs either way to small and left 1/2" to 3/4" gaps or to big. If they were to big he just beat on the plywood or jumped up and down on it till it went in. This was done to the GREAT amusement of other crew members. This same Crew Carpenter "tried" to drive a 8 Common Nail but it dent over. Instead of pulling the bent over nail out he just hammered in so laid horizontally smashed into the plywood. In front of the crew I dug it out and put in a nail correctly. They cut shingles on newly laid Ice Barrier material cutting the barrier. I mentioned this to the Project Manager and he said " the shingles will cover it." Ice Barrier is self sticking. One section had waves in it. I brought this to the Crew Lead and he said they will just cut the width of the Ice Barrier to get it to lay flat. So much for the Ice Barriers integrity. One of the guys just threw the styrofoam chutes vents in the attic between the roof rafters. The chutes say right on them staple. None of mine were stapled or pushed down into the eaves correctly. I corrected all of them myself. The project Manager was going to I subtract for my time spent. I said no thanks. My brown Valley W Channel was dented and scratched up. One 3" dent came close to going through the this metal. I again mentioned this to the Project Manager and he said it probable happened by dragging stuff over the installed Valley W Channel. For brevity these are only some of the problems/issues. The Project "only" said sorry when I handed him the final $10,000.00 check. I did speak to a manager and salesman from Infinity. They fixed stuff and offered to replace the dented and scratched W Valley Channel. I declined because it would require disturbing a good number of fresh/new shingles. For the many cuts in my driveway they offered $300 off the bill. We told them to donate the $300 to a local private animal shelter and do it in our name. It you use this company you or somebody knowledgeable in this type work oversee EVERYTHING ALL the time. The clean up guy worked hard for 12 hours picking up all the old stuff as it came off the roof."

"A&D communicated with me throughout the process. This was a small job that involved searching for siding to match what I had. It took A&D about a week to find and acquire suitable siding. Once it was in hand the work was done quickly."

"After reviewing several roofing companies on Angi and elsewhere, as well as one family recommendation, we went with Seidel to have all the singles, underlying materials, and gutters replaced on our ~ 25 year old home. The first thing to know about this company is that Udo is a knowledgeable professional who is happy to answer any questions leading up to the job, and assist with things that can be challenging, like getting permits or working with HOAs. During the work he checked in multiple times and even supplied some photos of the roof while the crew was up there, to confirm boards were all OK. In short, he doesn't miss details and does a great job communicating throughout. We went with a higher grade of shingle and supporting materials, and so far (after 30+ days and several storms) the overall quality looks great. I don't anticipate any issues through the coming winter, but will update should anything warrant it. Can fully recommend Seidel and we are also likely to use them for a siding project, based on our positive experiences with the roof."

FAQs for wood or fiber cement siding installation or complete replacement projects in Bensenville, IL

Yes, removing your existing siding before installing new cedar siding is essential for a secure and long-lasting installation. It helps eliminate hazards like rot and pest infestations and ensures a smooth surface for the new siding. Leaving old siding in place can compromise the appearance and integrity of your new cedar siding. Engaging a licensed siding contractor will ensure proper removal and preparation.

To determine how much cedar siding you'll need, start by measuring the height and width of each exterior wall of your home to calculate the area. For gable ends, measure from the base to the peak. Add up all these areas and then add an extra 10% to account for waste and future repairs. This ensures you purchase enough siding without running short.

Cedar siding endures between 20 and 40 years if maintained correctly from the start. This lifespan is secured by performing regular inspections for cracks, fungus, and bubbling and by pursuing consistent cleaning, painting, or staining with an appropriate sealant. Engaging a professional for periodic inspections ensures that your siding remains resilient and visually appealing for decades.

Your cedar siding must be maintained every three to five years through a thorough restaining or repainting process to preserve its strength and appearance. Regular maintenance prevents damage and ensures that the wood remains in peak condition. For homeowners seeking a less demanding upkeep schedule, choosing vinyl or aluminum siding offers a more resilient alternative while still providing exceptional style.
