"Gene and his team were great. He contacted me almost instantly when I posted on home advisor and was quick to test our asbestos with a trusted local lab and then quick to remove it. We subsequently had him test two or three other things in our house which he did immediately and got us negative results within days. He and his team are kind and very helpful. We would hire them again in an instant. He also came in significantly under other bids, and took all the precautions they would've taken. We felt Home Town Renovations was an honest and quality group of workers."

"Needed to replace my kitchen floor which was covered with two layers of tile.  Had tile tested and discovered the bottom layer was asbestos tile.  Called Frank and he agreed to come to my house in a couple of days to measure floor and provide an estimate.  Frank provided an estimate via email the next day.  Price looked OK to me so we scheduled the removal for June 3.  The guys arrived at about 9:00 am; sealed off the room and went right to work.  Job was completed by early afternoon with everything cleaned up nicely.  Good work, good price, timely response. <br />"

"They did a good job on the floor but left a great deal on the walls where that trim comes up a number of inches. At first the man came to say that's a different kind of glue so it's not asbestos, but would send someone out to take a sample since I was worried. It turned out to be asbestos. In the end I had the floor people laying new floor cover the wall mastic with new stuff and asked for a discount from the asbestos abatement company. They complied, and everything came out pretty well. The "B"s in this rating have to do with things feeling shady. In the end they did the right thing."

"I thought that they were very professional and quick to answer any questions. I had a lot of questions especially about the asbestos. They were good making me feel comfortable with the whole removal process because there were people living in the house at the time. The did all of the testing and paperwork. The basement looks great now. They gave a lot of good recommendations to help. They were very clean and left nothing behind, absolutely clean, which is impressive for such an old basement. It looks like a new construction basement! They made the house a livable and safe place. We did have a little issue come up but they were very quick to address it and correct the situation."

"I was nearly hysterical to discover the white cloth in the garage was asbestos. The project manager, Ed Grabigel, was very calm and reassuring when he came to when he came to give the estimate. The worker who did the actual removal was also very professional. I hope I never need them again but someone else may benefit. They seemed very competent. Air particulate sensor. Heavy plastic bags. Plastic suit for worker. Hazard signs."

FAQs for asbestos abatement projects in Bethel Park, PA

Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring mineral fibers once commonly used in building materials because of their resistance to heat, electricity, and corrosion. However, in 1975, research confirmed that these fibers cause mesothelioma and other cancers, leading to strict usage laws. If your home contains asbestos, removing it can prevent long-term health effects. You'll often find asbestos in the flooring, ceilings, pipes, and roofing of homes built before the 1990s. Common asbestos-containing materials include vermiculite insulation, vinyl flooring, millboard, and corrugated roofing. If you suspect you have asbestos or any of these materials in your home, it's important to hire a reputable abatement company to perform testing.

Currently, there is no federal licensing mandate for asbestos removal contractors. However, certain cities and states require certification and specialized training. For example, in some areas, contractors handling asbestos must receive an Asbestos Handler Certification. Be sure to check your local laws to ensure any contractor you hire meets the necessary requirements.

Homes constructed before the 1990s can conceal asbestos within building materials, and testing provides a definitive answer. You should have your home tested by a certified asbestos inspection service. This professional evaluation identifies hazardous materials and determines whether removal or encapsulation is necessary. Testing safeguards your family’s health and supports smart budgeting for remediation.

Federal law does not require you to disclose the presence of asbestos when selling your home. However, certain states and local jurisdictions impose disclosure regulations that you must follow. Testing and professional remediation confirm that hazardous materials are properly managed. This proactive approach not only meets legal requirements but also protects your property’s value and buyer health.

Asbestos removal affects a home’s resale value because hazardous materials can deter potential buyers. Having toxic substances present lowers buyer confidence and may reduce the property’s value by 1% to 15% if not addressed. Professional remediation ensures safety standards are met and preserves marketability, protecting your long-term investment.

Grants exist at both federal and state levels to support asbestos testing and removal projects. Local housing programs may also offer financial assistance when asbestos is discovered during home repairs. Meeting certification and testing standards is required to secure these funds, which help to manage overall project costs while ensuring safe remediation.
