"Fernando was very accommodating when scheduling both the initial meeting to provide an estimate and to work on the job. He arrived promptly both times and his quote was on target and did not deviate after the job was completed. The area of the basement wasn't completely cleared for him to start work when he and his son arrived, but he even helped to move things. Both of them kept things neat and clean, which made it easy for them to clear out quicker with no mess for us to pick up after. I'm picky about installation and didn't want the utility side of the house to look like an industrial area, so Fernando was able to install the exhaust up to the roof alongside the downspout. He also answered any questions on his the written proposal and his price was as stated for the work that was needed for my particular job. We needed 2 locations in the basement floor where they had to install PVC pipe to draw out the radon to a single fan attached to the outside of the house, that exhausted up to the roof. Really clean install. Also got another test kit from him, so that we can test for basement radon levels within the next 2 weeks to see if levels have been reduced to below the maximum allowed. Fernando said he will come back should we need any adjustments and advised us to remember to call him for annual service. His company is listed by the CT Dept of Health as one of the few qualified radon mitigation professionals as of July 21, 2016 - there's only a total of 6 qualified in Fairfield County, so that's definitely a positive sign that we selected the right guy for our job."

"I would recommend Poseidon Home Inspections to anyone looking at property in Westchester. Andy was excellent and very thorough. He has clearly been deeply involved at all levels of house ownership which truest shows through in his work. Especially as a first time home buyer, Andy will reveal any and all details about the house you need to know about. Even my realtor was blown away by his level of detail and care. Cannot recommend Poseidon Home Inspections enough. This service was expensive, but wow, was it worth it. We now have a 5-10year financial plan for home upgrades and maintenance which aligns to all the inspection findings."

"As first time home-buyers, Chuck made the inspection process a pleasant one. I'm a bit of an anxious person who asks a gazillion questions in one breath. Chuck dealt with that better than most, he took the time to inform me of what he saw every step of the way. He arrived early, worked on the outside while we waited for the agent to open the house. He checked every room thoroughly, top to bottom, I mean this guy was like looking for any possible thing that could be wrong. This made me feel very secure of my investment in him and his time. The best part is he used the device to check for any signs of water leaks!!! my biggest fear is a water issue and mold, so this certainly put me at ease. I especially loved his reaction when he saw the foam insulated attic! he was so proud - and having an A Grade home inspector that proud meant everything to us!! he also set up the radon testing all reasonably priced. The report arrived within 24 hours, clear, coherent and professional. This guy is awesome, knowledgeable and we especially appreciated his fantastic sense of humor through the process. He is well-rounded and knows more than just home inspections, he knows the market and he brings all the right connections in Orange County, NY. Thank you Chuck!"

"My house had excessive levels of radon in our lower level. The Lance Dorfi team installed a pump to pump out the radon and release it up above the roof of the house. Since then, radon levels in that part of the house have been very low, so the problem was resolved. The work was done on budget, and they did an excellent job with scheduling and customer service. I recommend them for dealing with radon."

"We had to use them twice. First time around, unfortunately the deal fell through. But Matt did great work. Was very thorough and professional.

Second time around we had Rich. And was very impressed as well. It was an older house (1958 built as opposed to the 1987 built house we inspected the first time). And felt like the inspection was even more thorough than last time. He started at the roof and outside and meticulously checked everything outside and inside for two and half hours. The report was detailed.

There was no real entry-way to the attic, but once we got permission to enter it through the back of a closet, he went in and inspected it as well - something that he didn't have to do.

The second time around the radon test, however, took a while to get back. But not that big of a deal.

Highly recommend."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Brewster, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
