"They called within minutes of our online quote request and scheduled a time to come the next day. They arrived when expected and resolved our clogged sewer drain issue within an hour. Their work was outstanding and came with a 30 day guarantee. They also recommended that we contact the county to have the county clear the portion of our sewer pipe near the street for free (when they could have easily tried to have us pay them for the outside work). The cost was exactly what they quoted us over the phone and was extremely reasonable. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to others."

"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"Derrick was delayed but kept us updated on his arrival. Once on site he was professional and friendly. He got the job done very quickly and nearly, cleaned the area and disposed of the damaged fixture. We were thrilled with the work he did and the reasonableness of the cost. It was great to work with a small family owned business. I spoke with Derrick’s wife to schedule the appointment and I appreciated working directly with the technician instead of a franchised outfit. I will definitely keep Wallace plumbing in my Rolodex and share the number with friends or family in the area who may need similar services! Great job!"

"Thomas Reamer and Ramon Goard installed a sump pump and drain line and reinforced the waterproofing material. Very thorough in explaining the problem, solution, and showing us pictures of the process throughout. They worked steadily through rain and heat. Very impressed with them and their work."

"Water Field was awesome. This is an old house with many challenges along the way; in other words - this was not a simple hot water heater install. Even with all the challenges, the work was done professionally, and cleanly. I will certainly use Water Field again without hesitation. Quality work, at a very reasonable price!!"

"Jomar (the technician) arrived promptly and was very courteous. he explained the process in clear terms. I expected the work to take long but he finished on time with no dirt or stains evident of a sump pump being replaced. He was super efficient and patient to answer all my questions. I will use Mr. rooter again."

"This company is nothing other than excellent. A bit pricey, but you only get what you play for - and I got plenty. On Saturday afternoon, I found out that I needed a complete sewer line replacement. By late Sunday afternoon, I had one! The crew had to dig down about 10 feet to remove the broken line and then had to tunnel under my patio to get to the cast iron pipe in order to connect the new line. After the installation, the dirt was replaced, the area was seeded and covered with straw, and the sidewalks and parking lot were sprayed clean. Every single guy in the crew was friendly and knowledgeable. Special thanks to Gregg, Chris and Mike. I have recommended Mahon to friends and family and have already scheduled another job. If you need a good plumber, whether for something major or minor, I highly recommend Mahon Plumbing."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Brooklyn, MD

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
