"They replaced cracked tiles, and replaced the underlayment on leaking area with good rubberized material. Reset a lot of tiles that just moved from the wind. Sealed around all vent pipes. They done more than I expected."

"Dealing with Preferred Roofing Company is a pleasure from start to finish. Owner David Paine, Erika in the office and the crew worked tirelessly to get our job completed. David helped us choose the right roof, get the installation done efficiently and all work is permit compliant and up to code. The crew was very professional, cleaned up after themselves and all involved kept us informed throughout the process keeping and up to date on any changes or developments. Nothing but good things to say and thrilled about the outcome. We love our new roof and that Preferred Roofing Company has given our house a new lease on life. We’ll recommend this company to friends and clients. J & K Allen"

"The whole project went excellent from start to finish. I had multiple quotes from companies (they wanted to charge me 50% more on the roof). Gio roofing was the best price overall and the guys were amazing. Ask for Tony"

"I used them to paint our house about 6 1/2 years ago.  I was happy then and am still happy after this job.  They are not the least expensive but do qualtiy work and offer a "touch up" service in between major painting to extend the life of a paint job.  The crew (Enrique and Jorge) were great.  They worked hard and were obviously very experienced.  One of them had been on the crew that painted my house 6 1/2 years ago.  They spent a lot of time on prep.  They estimated that the job would take about 1 week and were right on.  They were also great about coordinating the painting with the gutter company.  I had my old guttters removed prior to painting as I wanted the facia underneath the gutters painted.  The new alumium gutters then needed to be installed while the painters were still there since we were using bonderized downspouts (which need to be painted), several of which needed to be fabricated after the gutters were installed.  Suffice it to say, the coordination went flawlessly.  Also, Joe Freed, the owner, had to deal with my indecision on paint colors and transparent vs. solid stain on the pergola.  I trusted him on the solid stain recommendation and could not be happier.  I was unhappy with the downspout color (which I picked) after they were painted.  Joe and I picked another color and they repainted them without hassle and they look great.  I added another bit to the job at the end which added $140.  Some of the roof flashing was showing between the concrete tile roof and new gutters.  Joe picked up paint and they finished that up with the rest of the job.  I'll definitely use them again."

"I would like to just keep it clear and simple. Me and my wife are more than %100 pleased and satisfied with AP Roofing Group. They are professional, honest, hardworking people and very easy to do business with. Our neighbors commented to us about what a great roofing job they did and how clean working site they left at the end of each day. The installation of the new roof (including the removal of the existing one with the permits) was fast and we can’t be more pleased and happier with the final results of our new roof. If we had more houses that had issues with roof or needed a new one, AP roofing group was the only company we will call."

"First of all, let me state that I am not in any way affiliated with Morris Roofing and have received no discount or any other compensation for this review. I am just a very satisfied customer that would like to share my story in the hopes that it can make somebody else's choice easier. After the heavy rains that we received this year, it became obvious we would need a new roof soon. The granules were dropping from our old roof by the bucketful and the fibers were starting to show. I wanted to get the roof redone before I NEEDED to get the roof done, it that makes sense. I called four roofing companies for estimates and spoke with the roofers as they were on the roof to check out the situation. Of the four companies, I had the most confidence in Adam Morris as he talked to me about what he saw and what was needed. My wife said to me right after he left "I bet he is going to be the highest bid, but I hope it is still in the ballpark". We both had a great initial impression and hoped for the best. Now, I typically do not go for the lowest bid on a job because I figure that they must be cutting some corners to get the bid down. I just hoped the Morris bid was close to what the others came in with. As luck would have it, Morris came in as the lowest bid by about $1000! Adam took the time to go over the materials that he would be using and I independently verified what he said to me by doing a ton of research on my own. My best suggestion is to go onto forums where roofers talk among themselves and check out what they have to say about certain materials, like underlayment and shingles as well as ventilation. What I found is that Adam was completely honest and up front with me from the very beginning. Finally, the total cost came right in line with what was on the estimate. The estimate detailed work to be done and laid out the cost for replacement of wood where it is needed. There were NO hidden costs and I got a better than fair price for excellent work. One final note: My wife and I were expecting a baby and wanted to get the new roof on before the scheduled delivery date of our daughter. We signed the contract for work to be completed by May 23, 2017. Our daughter had other Ideas and came a week early. This company came through and not only got the work done on time, but when Adam learned the baby was a week early, he got his crews out to my house ahead of schedule and had them working overtime. The end result was that we brought our new daughter home to a finished roof a full week before the contract date. I truly believe that my experience with Adam Morris and his crews is not unique. They never seemed like they were doing something special, it just seemed like they always work this way. I would be completely comfortable recommending Morris Roofing to anybody that may ask. In a time where we, as consumers expect to be swindled or ripped off by everybody; it is such a wonderful thing to come across a company that is so honest and hardworking. I will be posting this review on multiple sites because I truly feel that hiring Morris Roofing was the best possible decision we could have made."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Bryn-mawr, CA

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
